I want to understand the pakistani education system. I mean how the class/grade system is, because I really dont understand it when I compare it to the one I know. Whenever I talk to someone from pakistan (for instance my aunt or bhabhi) they will say “humne BA/BSc kiya hai” .. But they never went to Uni .. They dont have BA in some specific subject like Bachelor of chemistry or bachelor of medicin u know? .. So wht is this BA tht almost all pakistani people have done nowadays ?
Here is the system I know (in which I have gonne to school)
Grade 1 - 9 (Grade 10 is optional) - We call it FA (u areusually around 16 yrs when u end here)
College 3 yrs ( we graduate and can apply for Uni)
Uni .. After 3 yrs u have a BA/BSc .. Then u do a Master .. Then PhD .. and so on
**
there are quite a few system being followed in pakistan
the common 2 are
1. Metriculation
2. A/O Levels
in matriculation system
grade 1-10 (if u pass 10th grade then its called .... bachey ney matric kerliya).......
then grade 11-12 (usually referred as 1st yr, 2nd yr OR inter) .... In pakistan ...... its called college from where u do ur Inter ......... (if u pass 2nd yr then its said ........ bachey ney FSc/FA kerlia)
then come the Bachelors degree (thts done from university or privately) ......
then masters......... phd

^thts sort of the same here .. but jab wo kehte hain "humare beti/bete ne BA kiye hain" .. and u ask them in what? they say "sukhe BA kiye hain" .. wht does tht mean? .. My friend said its when they have passed grade 14th?
A BA in social sciences (like political science, languages, history etc) is called a 'simple BA'. It is actually a combination of exams you take, without ever going to the university, to get the degree. Equivalent to 14 years of education.
They have started 4 years graduation at some universities now, which would be equivalent to 16 years of education but this is comparatively new and the first batches are just graduating.

See simple BA , means they just chose non specialist education ..... completed 14 years of study ....
normally there are 4 or 5 compulsory subjects like : urdu, islamiat, pak studies , etc ...
...and two electives which you can choose ( in one of which you will ultimately end up doing your masters ) .. electives are usually languages like english literature , urdu literature , Education ( normally teachers study this course ) , punjabi literature , psychology , sociology , political science ... anything that is non specialist ..
once you have done your plain simple BA , then the choice for Masters which normally people complete in one of the elective subjects they chose during their BA ...
B.Com is very different .. its basically Commerce study .... which is a specialist degree
