For most of my life I have been ignoring role of MCC. Please pardon my ignorance and help make me understand. Who are MCC and where does their decision on Laws of the cricket stands? If they maky any law, will it by default be included in ICC Laws? If such is the case, who comprise MCC? All cricket playing nations? If not then why not ?
What are the dynamics here? whats the relation b/w ICC and MCC? (if there is any)
Just FYI some1 bhai there is a creature called “guppies” who can summarize the things better than searching and reading pages and pages without getting answer to specific questions
MCC, Merleboone cricket club was the first governing body of cricket. It was the organization that created the cricket rules and had its own team, they are the ownsers of Lords cricket ground and . tours of MCC teams were crucial in cricket till 60’s i belive and they were treated as important as test tours. MCC tours carried same name till late 50’s and early 60’s but then later labelled as World 11 tour in 70’s.
ICC was started in early 1900’s by Eng, SA and AUS, basically ICC is responsible for playing conditions and regulation involving cricket boards. Since it was MCC and not ICC that drafted the cricket rules, so it has the most authority over changing the rules even tough ICC is considered the geverning body of the game as it is. ICC has very less power on changing the rules of the game in test cricket and that is why majority of changes that ICC implements are mostly in ODI level, which came about when ICC was governing the cricket worldwide.
