The problem is my fiance HATESSSSS (with capital H) mehndi.. both the smell, color and everything in it… and he told me thousand many times that do ANYTHING literally anything other than mehndi… which I simply ignored sometimes by laughing, sometimes by changing the topic, sometimes by convincing him that now-a-days mehndi isnt smelly anymore… yet failed to convince him…
Fine with me… I am no more a mehndi freak now… But what to do on my shadi functions… What other people say?!
Hey tashfeen,
If its the smell and color of mehndi that he doesn't like, then there are alternatives. But if he doesn't like the look completely, then there's nothing you can do except not put it on.
However, if its the former, then you can use jagua tattoos instead of henna tattoos. Jagua is a tropical fruit that comes from the amazon. It doesn't smell anything like henna and has a nice scent. Once you put it on, it doesn't smell at all. Its final shade is black and takes around the same time as henna to develop the color. To minimize the look of wearing henna/jagua, you can get simpler designs instead of crazy, all over ones. Then you can fill them in with lovely glitters that match your dress. The jagua kits can be bought online and are just as easy to use as henna. You can take the kit with you to the parlor you're getting ready from and have them put it on just like henna.
So with simple, glitter-ful designs, the guests wont ask questions and your fiance wont have to smell the henna or look at the crazy designs on your hands.
Also, you can have someone draw designs on your hands with a brown, non permanent painters pen. It'll look like henna but you can wash it off with acetone (nail polish remover) or rubbing alcohol the next day.
Hope this helps.
my own fiance tried that with me i seriously told him to eff off i would be wearing mehndi regardless of what he thinks .. men think they can dictate us womens lives this is ur wedding do what u want .
well.. u get married once.. so really ask him to just bare with it for 72 hrs..
maybe getting a simpler design on the outer side of ur hand and a little detailed one inside might not hurt.. u can even get mehndi with scented oils these days.. orange flower and eucalyptus being the top ones used to take out the smell of the mehndi.. also theres something known as emergency mehndi.. sold in pakistan commonly these days as i hear.. i got it done for my shoot after the shaadi.. and the color came on in 15 mins and exactly 4 days into having the mehndi done it starts coming off.. so really he wont have to look at henna covered hands for long..
im sure he can understand.. they all do in the end!!
tashfeen..you can always go easy on the design..i know..some designs dont look good..because of the heaviness of the pattern...try to pick out the elegant ones...who knows..maybe he will like it...as for the smell...spray it with your favorite perfume..the least it can do is...mask/blend in with the smell of the mehndi.
BOTH my fiance and I don't like henna :S but I got it done on Eid for my MIL-to-be and used vanilla scented oil... ugh wasn't so bad then! And I had a VERY small motif.
My cousisn didn't wear mehndi either...her husband doesn't like it. It's not THAT big of a deal...just say my fiance doesn't like it. Poeple will get over it.
