hi! Last year (or was it the year before) on PTV Prime they showed this
brilliant TV drama (only 1 episode but it was about 2-3 hours long)–the thing is I have forgotten the title! The story is set in old Lahore’s Shahi Mohalla and is set in that community. It is about this dancing girl (tawaif) and how she tries to make it as a singer whilst her ustaad falls in love with her; meanwhile one of the ustaad’s other male pupils falls in love with the ustaad’s daughter and runs away with her. Meanwhile the ustaad who is already married is trying to seduce this tawaif too and i think he marries her without telling his first wife…It is beautifully shot in old Lahore and has great background music by Hamid Ali Khan etc. The Ustaad is played by a really famous actor – I think it is Firdous Jamal but not sure. Anyway I did record this but my brother recorded over it with something else and now I want to buy it or something but can’t remember the name…!! The actress playing the tawaif is v pretty too…
