HELP - best educational videos for children under five??????
Working with them like reading books together, making arts and crafts togethers, cullenabc has really nice videos of interactive songs for circle-time with kids on youtube. Many websites offer homeschooling curriculum and have great worksheets. The one thing I have started doing is whenever we go out, after the activity is dobe and we aren't supertired, I help the twinkies make a map of the place we visited and what we saw and throw in a few ridiculous answers to see if they catch my mistake and of-course they do most of the time and this helps them develop a sense of place as well as a memory. Playibg pretend helps, like after we read a story, we act it out and right now its been goldilocks for the past three days. Books are very important, let them make up stories or start a story and let them finish it. I try to not get toys that are too blingy and flashy and do too many things at a time, instead I get simple toys and let then play pretend with them. We just got a huge vegetable and fruit/snack pack so they love playing grocery store or taking orders to play waiter and the parent has to play with them. These are just ideas that I picked up from magazines and other mom forums. Hope this helps :)

Great advice, Devilicious :k:
There are a few good websites that encourage learning, for example www.pbskids.org.
I used to let munchkin play games on their and it helped her understand addition, sequence, problem solving… and a lot of other things too.
Munchkin is really into books and reading. I’ve been reading to her from before she was 1. Also, she’s really into book and story making so I encourage that with getting paper and making books for her to draw in and write her own story. A few weeks ago, she really wanted to make a book about her whole entire family (cousins and grandparents and all).. so I got paper, punched some holes into it and got a string and made a book out of it… she was sooo thrilled. She didnt think we could make a book without staples.. but u work with what u got around the house.. lol

Also, not sure whether you guys are ok with your under 5's watching cartoon movies.. but i have found that movies like "Up" and "Dispicable Me" really though provoknig. I especially love "Up".
AOh, and if you have Wii... you could also get really amazing educational games. My BIL got munchkin a brain development game.. it helps with maths, logic, sequence..
p.s no, the Wii wasnt bought for her. It was something the hubby and i got for ourselves but came to good use with munchkin :D

Re: HELP - best educational videos for children under five??????
ideally you should just let them loose in an open grassy area. anything else involves cleaning up a big mess. trust me.
Re: HELP - best educational videos for children under five??????
lol... glue and glitter. It can make anything look amazing! During the school holidays, I picked up all these odd piecees of arts and crafts stuff from the $2 shop fo rmunchkin. She loooved making anything possible.
To encourage her spelling and writing as well, I got her the felt letters and glue, so she made all these foam plaques with different things on them.. like "I love mama and daddy" or all the names of cousins and what not. When she used up all the 'A's', she started using 'V's' to make the A's... lol. Encourage creativity!

I’m a big fan of BBC website. They are brilliant for pre schoolers to GCSE level! My daughter loved the storytime on it. They have games which help little ones with colours, shapes and numbers etc.
Above all, their teaching resources are highly sophisticated and use the latest approaches to learning.
