In case you are trying to remove some program manually, meaning not using 'uninstall' you will always have problem!
Use a program called 'regclean' its free and try to remove from there, also remove the start up files from the same software, and right now press Ctrl+Alt+delete and go to task manager, click on on 'process' and close those unwanted things from there, specially related to this anti virus software, ...
Later Use **Zonealarm **suite, it contains Firewall, aniti virus, and anti spy wares, this is one best package, dowanload , isntall and run it, ... those symmentic and nortons are chosa aams...

type msconfig in the run window and then go to startup services and disable all services related to symantec/norton and then restart the pc and delete all related stuff from the hard drive....
khas kam jahaan paak....
and for future stick to nod32....
