Hey All! Thank you for reading my post, any advice would be much appreciated.
I am 38+1 weeks and really confused as to whether or not I should go to the hospital to be checked out. I live in the UK and here I am only getting basic care from my GP who doesn’t do vaginal exams, just checks my BP/weight/urine whenever I have an appointment. I have been getting bursts of period pains (been more than a week now) but not regularly throughout the day, when I do have the pains they are intense and then disappear after 2/3 minutes, this happen a few times in the morning and evening. I feel pressure sometimes in my pelvic area and my legs are forever hurting, not to mention I am constantly tired/sleepy. Oh and 4 days ago I had thick snotty white lump of discharge when I used the toilet (sorry I know it sounds GROSS!) and it continued for 2 days after but has now disappeared.
I am not sure whether or not I should call the hospital and tell them to check me, I feel they will tell me not to bother coming in yet, but I really want to know which stage I am at right now. Do you think I should call the hospital? or wait till I have severe pains? help is much appreciated, thank you all xxx <3
no worries about not being checked.. I pushed my midwife to check me for dilation at 39 weeks.. even though she had no intentions to do so!
regarding the contractions.. check with your hospital about the procedure.. I was in labor for mroe than 24 hours at home because they dont let you come in to the hospital until the contraction is every 3-4 minutes, lasting for a minute, for an hour (4-1-1 is what I was told to remember, 4 minutes apart lasting 1 minute for 1 hour) and by the way, this is the procedure for first time babies.. since the second labor can progress faster, it may be different. I dont know!
and honestly when you are in labor, you know it.. I used to wonder if I wil miss it and if I will have a baby at home.. umm no, you dont miss it and you have plenty of time to make it to the hospital :-)
Thank youuu GTG.. I was so worried... I feel the same, I feel like somethings going to happen at home and itll b too late to go into the hospital, i guess thats normal anxiety. I am not sure about the procedure, np one has told me anything, I feel such lack of care here its terrible! Other people have told me that when i feel something i should go there get them to check me and then see what they say.... so that is the plan so far :/
anyone else have any pearls of wisdom? and what do proper contractions feel like?
Please do see a dr if you are overdue. Yellowbutterfly in the UK you should have a named midwife that keeps track of your pregnancy, If you do contact her straight away.If not speak to your GP, as they need to refer you incase you need to be induced at 42weeks.
you need to go get checked out immediately. i'm amazed they're not on top of things with you- past 40 weeks really is pushing it. the quality of your placenta starts to deteriorate at a certain point past 40 weeks which is why baby has to come out. please call the hospital right away or better yet, show up and refuse to go home until your baby is in your arms. be proactive about this- don't risk anything untoward happening, God forbid.
I have been in my gps care since the start all he does is chk Bp n urine thts all... I saw a hospital midwife at 16 weeks last. Care here is really bad lately :( Im planning to go in today and demand to be checkd lets hope they do it... Theyr all full of nakhray! Grrr!
So i went n asked to b chkd ... No dilation yet :( midwife sed cervix is starting to soften n did a slight sweep for me but nothin has happened yet. Everything was normal Allhumdulilah... She sed it can happen netime still... I really dont want to b induced :( anyone else experience anything similar??? Xx
That's odd - everyone I know who goes through a pregnancy under the care of the NHS is under the care of a midwife whom you should be able to contact at any time.
Ahaan... I know a few people who didnt have a midwife just gp visits so i assumed it was a London issue coz outside London i have frends who had midwives... Who knows... but my gp does suck for sure lol
+5 days now still nothing :(
