Does anyone have any information on Shinkiari, it’s about 5-6 miles from Balakot.
Any numbers I can ring, I have tried all the numbers of my family but just get no dialing tone.
How badly was it affected?

Thap, try pakistani embassy/counsilate(sp?) and they may have some information about that area. May Allah keep ur family safe. let us know if u hear anything.

Thap I have a friend whose dad is a general in the army and supervising rescue operations in the balakot area... They have jawans all over that area and the only source of contact is radio, and Ill try to get in touch with him and find out about that area and will let you know if i get anything from them.

This is really heart wrenching. I have read this thread for the umpteenth time in the last 5 minutes and I am literally shaking... teary eyes. Allah rehem karay.

stay hopeful thap, family of a friend of mine was in an affected area and only got word from them yesterday.
virtually all communication is down in that area, but inshallah we all pray that when it gets back online, you hear good news about them.

Mobilink sends relief goods for quake victims
ISLAMABAD, Oct 10 : Sensing its responsibility at the time of national disaster and to share the burden of the government of Pakistan in the ongoing relief efforts for the quake victims, Mobilink GSM has dispatched a consignment of relief goods to the affected areas of NWFP.
According to a press release, the relief goods include free connections, scratch cards, mobile phone sets. 15 vehicles carrying relief goods which include medicines, blankets, warm clothing, biscuits, dry milk, juices and other food items along with a team of communication experts of the Company.
The relief goods would be delivered in the most affected areas of Abbottabad, Mansehra, Balakot and Shinkiari where majority of the local people are still stranded in damaged buildings or camped in the open, in the cut off areas and are still desperately waiting for any relief.
The base camp of the relief operation would be set at Mansehra from where the whole operation would be launched.** Besides the company would also set up free call centers at affected areas so that the public does not face any difficulty in maintaining easy and speedy connection with their families.**
According to spokesman of the Mobilink GSM, the Company would launch more relief operations in other areas as well.

It sounds like the communication network is down in the area, and that Mobilink GSM may be the first to get communications into the area.
