I had the toughest day in the kitchen today, spending 4 hours in a hot professional kitchen ain’t easy! oh by the way let me tell you that im studying in a culinary school and going to be a professional bawarchan soon insha Allah.
I wanted to be a chef since I was 15 its just my passion but right now my stomach is in knots cause I never wanna go back to that kitchen again , im just exhausted. Is it happening cause being a chef has its occasional downs? We work long hours everyday, this is daily hard, rough and tough back-breaking hours that would make cowards cry.
Great to know that you chose a profession not many venture into. How much does it pay btw, i mean once you have some experience, beyond the early years.
To be honest chefs dont make enough money here in pakistan if you are working in a 5 star hotel they would pay u around 50k… and if it’s not a 5 star hotel then you can just compare average wages of chefs, plumbers and HVAC, you will be suprised! Now as negative as I make it sound I guess I am just trying to shatter an idealistic picture of the chefing life, you know being a chef is hard work yoy have to work nights holidays and weekends, Its not like what you see on TV , plus you have to work your way up, when you graduate from culinary school, you will not be hired as a chef you have to start out at an entry level position (like prep cook, line cook or even dishwasher)
On a serious note, its great you came into this profession as it will never go out of business, people need to eat and will pay for good food.
Aside from becoming a chef, also try to learn the tricks of the business and people management. Its true that the salary of chefs is not good but if one day you start your own business, it will negate these drawbacks.
And, when you are down and out… watch Ratatouille movie… Chef Gusteau says, “Anyone can cook!”
And yeah its a really nice movie ive seen it fr I dont know how many times.. forget about Gordon Ramsey or Jamie Oliver Chef Gusteau is the one who inspires me the most lol
