Can someone please find me the lyrics to Helen Reddy’s song entitled: Delta Dawn?
I remember listening to an album of her’s with my dad when I was very young. There were three or four songs that stuck…here is one of them:
You and me against the world - Helen Reddy
You and me against the world
Sometimes it feels like you and me against the world
When all the others turn their backs and walk away
You can count on me to stay
Remember when the circus came to town
When you were frightened by the clown
Wasn’t it nice to be around someone that you knew
Someone who was big and strong and looking out for
You and me against the world
Sometimes it seems like you and me against the world
And for all the times we’ve cried
I always felt that God was on our side
And when one of us is gone
And one of us is left to carry on
Then remembering will have to do
Our memories alone will get us through
Think about the days of me and you
Of you and me against the world
I guess it’s the one that will most remind me of papa.
Delta Dawn, what's that flower you have on?
Could it be a faded rose from days gone by?
And did I hear you say he was a-meetin' you here today
To take you to his mansion in the sky-eye?
She's forty-one and her daddy still calls 'er "baby"
All the folks 'round Brownsville say she's crazy
'cause she walks downtown with her suitcase in her hand
Lookin' for a mysterious dark-haired man
In her younger days they called her Delta Dawn
Prettiest woman you ever laid eyes on
Then a man of low degree stood by her side
Promised her he'd take her for his bride
