Re: hejab dilemma

Well, I've been on both sides where I grew up not wearing a scarf, but now I do, in the last year or so. Although my reasons are simply because I like wearing it, not necessarily religious reasons.

Anyway, its true that you may get some things that you dont get while wearing hijab. Like you may get a specific type of attention from men, you may not be leered at with thoughts that you might be a terrorist, you may be looked at differently if you like going out at night or clubbing, people may not approach you as much or be as friendly. But there is the flip side too. Men dont oogle as much at you, you arent stared at for your body, you are reminded by others and not just your scarf that you should act like a muslim, and people will ask you questions that can give them a better understanding of what Islam is.

Just because you dont wear a scarf doesnt mean people will always be nice to you, people will never gossip about you, people wont break friendships with you, etc.

It's a matter of will.

As for guys, if a guy doesnt want you to do what you consider is something important to you in Islam, you dont want that guy in your life anyway. Guys reject girls on a multitude of basis, not just the hijab. You want the guy who accepts you for the decisions that you have made in your life. You only need one, not 1000.

As per work, well, I have worked in the past, and I have gone to interviews with my scarf on. If you show confidence, it goes a very long way. I've worked for three Israeli's in the past, so dont think people wont be willing to hire you because of what you wear. Just ask Allah.

Sure, there will be some ppl who dont like you just based on what you wear, but let them know that you wont stand down, and you wont give up your values and your morals for what you believe to be right, despite the doubts sometimes.

I am the only one in scarf in my classes (but not the only one in school or other classes), and non-muslim guys are constantly telling me how they admire me for dressing the way I do, and keeping myself the way I do. Mash'Allah.

I think its a positive thing, but its upto you to do decide whats more important to you.

Okay this entry is getting out of hand. hehe.
