Does anyone know of any home remedies for this? Any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated.
Hello Shehreen,
I guess it's due to u know what. Well have u tried eating crackers?
The only other thing I can suggest is to
have a cold glass of milk with water added to it. I am not sure if it will actually help or not. But I say give it a try. Do let me know how u feel If u try this.
As a matter of fact Sajal is right to recommend Milk and that too cold for heartburn. Its a base so that always help, as well as banana or lots of water : )
Alternatively pepto bismol, malox or any other heartburn medicine should be fine.
Shahreen,
Milk is actually not a very good suggestion. Cold milk helps temporarily because of Calcium but milk itself is not good for stomach and acidic so eventually may escalate the heartburn due to Acid Reflux.
Yougurt is a better choice. Yougurt got a lot of calcium in it. Calcium helps to "shrink" the part of esophagus that acts like a bicycle air tube stopper (pardon me, I don't remember the exact word) that lets the air goes in but doesn't let it come out. Esophegus is the same way but due to muscular relaxation of that particular part, the acid in the stomach rises up and comes out and hurts the lining in the chest above. Some of the common remedies you can apply are:
1- Eat yougurt regularly. Preferrably in the morning.
2- Avoid drinking too much coffee or caffein.
3- If you have to use over the counter medicine then Tums are the best.
4- Don't overeat.
5- Don't eat and lie down.
6- Avoid peppers (Jelepeno sp? etc.).
7- Avoid onions.
If the problem continues then don't hesitate seeing a doctor. Hope you feel better.
Roman's advice is spot on. Milk is not good....even though I know that you're probably trying to kill two birds with one stone in pregnancy related heartburn.
I'm having the toughest time with heartburn so there are bottles of TUMS with Calcium found both upstairs and downstairs in my house.
Eating small meals and going for a walk after eating also helps. Otherwise it's just another one of those things that our mothers put up with when they were expecting us. May Allah bless them.
Thanks for your advice guys.
Sajal, yes it is pregnancy related heartburn which is why I am a bit reluctant to buy over the counter remedies.
I will try Romans yogurt idea and see how I get on.
Muzna, is TUMS medicine okay to take if your pregnant?
Well it's true that milk would only give u temporary relief.
But I thought something would be better then nothing.:)
Muzna
when did this happen? I had no clue.
Congratulations.:)
shahreen,
Tums is perfectly safe during pregnancy. I've asked docs and friends and they have both given me the thumbs up.
Try the fruit flavoured ones.....yummy! The only down side is that sometimes you eat something that you've been craving and you so want to keep that taste in your mouth for a while, but you have to have a TUMS if you don't want to suffer.
Sajal,
Kamal hai....tumhain nahin pata? Main samjhi sab main khabar phel chuki hai. Our due date is Feb. 2, inshallah....so you can figure out kay kab hu'a ;).
Tried the milk and yogurt suggestions which gave some relief albeit temporary. Muzna, I'm still trying to get hold of some TUMS.
honey is good... olive oil is good...
Deviiciouss, do you need to take the honey and olive oil in any particular method? How much?
It could be do to the way you are positioned when sleeping
Sleep with your head slightly elevated. Someone mentioned before instead of just having two large meals divide them into several meals throughout the day, and of course avoid citrus food i.e. oranges. Hmm this is sort of weird but back in health class I remember the teacher had said although it’s imperative that you drink a lot of juice and water, but if you have heartburn than to avoid drinking while having a meal because that could produce acid release for digestion which leads to heartburn, instead make up for it by drinking juice or water throughout the day.
Also if its been more than month than you should go see a doctor, not to scare you but one of my coworkers had the same problem and hers lasted throughout the nine months.
Hope you feel better.
muzna
I really had no clue. I haven't been as active on gs lately.
