Re: Heart of asia conference
Transit trade is part of afpak transit agreement from 1965. Pakistan did stop trade when Zaud khan decided to “invade”, though was beaten back, in bajaur in early sixties leading to his dismissal by Zahir Shah. This is probably the reason that the agreement was set up in 1965.
As for chapat, Modi ki lag gaye hai trade par. Have fun importing afghan fruits by air. Either the indian govt subsidizes their price in the market or the cheap indians aren’t going to buy them at tall.
As far as ghani’s stance, I think that either Pakistan itself or maybe the US / Afghans expected too much from Pakistan. The process has never been synced on both sides due to trust issues, so now you have so much empty territory in afghanistan that the afghan army and police is unwilling or unable to hold for long. Haqqanis maintain bases in eastern afghanistan so I don’t know why Pakistan never mentioned that?
Another issue about “cross border verification” should have been that Pakistan should and could’ve forcefully conveyed to Ghani is that if you do consider it to be a “border”, then why do you ***** when Pakistan asks for visas and builds fortifications on the border? They even fired on pakistanis inside our own borders for putting a fence which even Indians haven’t done on the international border.
Aside from the fact that Surcharge Aziz needs to be put to pasture, I don’t get why Pakistan doesn’t bring up the border altercations and terrorists based in eastern afghanistan? It was even in international news last year on how the US scooped up this TTP lateef guy which afghans were going to insert into Pakistan for terrorism.
