I’m almost mid way through my pregnancy and concerned about gaining enough weight. For once, my body refuses to pack on the pounds . I’ve been craving fruits and simple home cooked stuff all along and as a result have completely eliminated fried foods, sugary drinks etc. My Dr is not concerned because baby seems to be doing well growth wise (knock on wood!). However, being a paranoid first timer, I’d like to get some ideas on how to gain weight healthily. Any suggestions? What non-junk food items did you eat to gain weight?
Hey LucyMay - I’m in the exact same position as you: first timer, and alhamdolilah just gone 20 weeks (half way). I barely have a bump - it just looks like I had a heavy dinner lol. I’ve hardly gained weight and people can’t believe I am 5 months now. I’m not worried because I know inshAllah my body will do what it has to do - eventually it’ll grow!
Don’t worry about gaining weight. Just continue what you’re doing I.e. eating healthily and when you’re hungry. If your doctor says you and baby are fine then relax and take it easy. Every pregnancy is different so don’t think you should be xyz by a certain stage. Your weight gain should probably come naturally when it’s time.
Sounds exactly like me.. I have put on 6-7 lbs so far, but unless I’m wearing a tight fitting shirt the pregnancy is not evident. I was a little worried because I lost weight in the first tri and you’re “supposed” to gain 25-30 lbs overall (from what I read online); couldn’t imagine how I’m going to make up the difference.
its not necessary to put 25-30 lbs overall, all depends on ur body condition. I gained almost 20 kg weight (not in pounds). and masha ALLAH my child was healthy as well. My doctors was concerned abt that much weight gained n this happened from 7th till delivery. so dnt worry. keep ur self healthy n take healthy snack. no junk food.
I only gained 13 lbs with my eldest…and he was born perfectly healthy mA at 7.6 lbs!! Keep doing what you’re doing, eat healthy and stay active. As long as your doctor isn’t concerned about the baby’s development you’re fine.
I normally only gain about 6/7 kg, as long as the babies growth is ok then I wouldn’t worry. I wouldn’t start eating unhealthy fried fatty foods just to gain weight, it’s so hard to lose after.
I’m currently 8 months n have only gained about 3kg, I lose my appetite during pregnancy n get really bad acid n heartburn.
They say the babies weight doubles in the last month.
Woah - 20kg? Lol my cousin, who is naturally tiny, smaller than me (prior to her kids…!) also gained about 20kg with her first baby. I couldn’t believe it lol.
Just goes to show how much variation there is with each pregnancy. In my first tri I gained 4kg, and they haven’t weighed me since then, so I have no idea how much it is, but it can’t be much because I just don’t have a bump yet. I have to wear those ‘baby on board’ badges you get here in London when on the tube because no-one can actually see I am pregnant and won’t offer me a seat otherwise!
I put on 17lbs with my son and he was 9.5lbs mA. This time around, I’m almost 20 weeks and have put on 3lbs so far. Both times I had crazy morning sickness and lots of vomiting so I lost weight in the first trimi. All good, I say! Your baby will take what it needs from you. Worry not!
I did not gain any weight until now, dont know in lbs but yep quite a few kilos, still i am not huge but i ate good and kept active regardless u will gain weight especially towards end
I always lose in first trimester, put on a few pounds in second and then gain about 10-15 in third trimester.. it happened to me both times so I guess thats just how my body works.. if your doc isnt concerned, dont worry.
I lost 12 lbs in 1st trimester, now my weight is stagnant. My doc said its okay, I feeling okay as well. My belly is looking more pregnantish but I am not gaining lbs (yay)!
^ Congratulations! Thats awesome news. Sigh I need to have a second baby too. It just never feels like the right time
@OP I gained about 22 lbs in my first pregnancy . I was tiny and underweight before so I kind of needed to gain the weight. I lost it all 5 months postpartum. Don’t worry about the weight gain. Just eat healthy.
