Re: Healthy, Low Fat Recipes
Don't know if it will help you lose weight but this chicken recipe is pretty healthy as no oil/ghee involved.
Take 1kg chicken and add4-5 chopped tomatoes, 2 teaspoons crushes garlic with 1.5 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon red mirch, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper and 1/2 teaspoon garam masala. My mum also adds whole garam masala but I don't eat them.
Cook for 20 minutes then add 3 tablespoons of yogurt and 3 sliced onions and cook for 7-8 minutes. Sprinkle a little bit garam masala after cooking.
Re: Healthy, Low Fat Recipes
Try boiled black channas. Serve with chopped cucumber, onions, tomatoes and green chillies. (for a healthier, no oil version)
or you can add a little masala to the channas' For the masala:
Take 2-3 tbspns of oil, add turmeric powder(1 tsp), red chilli powder(1/2 tsp), salt(1/2 tsp), zeera powder(1/2) tsp, garlic paste(1 tsp) and bhunofy. (like you'd cook the masala for salan), once oil separates, add the boiled channas and serve with chopped veggies and tamarind chutney.
you can have this as a snack or it can even go for a full meal. (high in protein)
Note: Tamarind chutney helps with weight loss too, (accord. to some people)
:)
Re: Healthy, Low Fat Recipes
I'm trying the boiled channa dish for dinner and i'll post a pic. Healthy food can be yummilicious too

fasting is torturous though because as soon as I see food I devour it and eat a lot more than I should after fasting.
Do you fast the whole day and only eat at night? Or is it the way we do it on Ramadan?
Re: Healthy, Low Fat Recipes
Hi salaam
before this is how I used to do it:
wake up in the morning as usual but not eat bf after brushing teeth. Drink water or any other fluid till Maghreb and eat after Maghreb AZAn as if breaking fast. This always worked well as far as losing weight is concerned, leave me feeling quite light and refreshed for the next 2-3 days. But I've been thinking why not do the same the Islamic fasting way and rest my kidneys too for few hours. Then I read up about how the prophet PBUH used to fast on Mondays.... So next time I'm going to do it the way we fast in Ramadan... Maybe this coming Monday hopefully.
Re: Healthy, Low Fat Recipes
It's hard to fast when i'm at work because we are all pretty close at work and they would be concerned if they see me not eating lunch at 11:30am when they all eat.
Re: Healthy, Low Fat Recipes
LOL, that’s also hard with moms around but I somehow manage it.
But you can try other tips like nongreasy, fried food, no pizzas. For work, you can take with you dry nuts, veg sandwiches, or home made roti but eat with salad or yogurt. Or simply just eat fruits like apples, bananas, eating gauva also leaves you feeling full for a long time. Completely cut off butter in your diet. I have noticed the day I eat it, for the next 3-4 days, I feel I’ve become double the size… but then the reason could be that the amount of butter I eat at one time is what 4-5 people will eat, hehe… Just because when it is in front of me, I cant help not eating more… then a little more… then a little more… and dont stop till I start feeling guilty or crave my chai… cz it taste so good. So I try not to bring it to the table at all. Im thinking of switching to cheese. Maybe it’ll help… Infact, I just made Ricotta two days ago. Heard it helps lose weight. But it tastes so good. Made a cheese omelette with it yesterday. No clue how it’ll help me lose weight ![]()
So I think, for me, fasting is the best option because only the will to respect my fast can keep me from eating.
Re: Healthy, Low Fat Recipes
Couldn't we post up pics of healthy recipes we made please? When I look at the threads in the "cuisine" forum they are recipes that are quite fattening.
Are healthy dishes really that repulsive or can we try to post up pics of the healthy stuff we made too?
When I look at pics of fattening food I feel like making it.
Re: Healthy, Low Fat Recipes
Did 1 hour booty barre and 1 hr of Zumba right after that.
made yummy rotisserie chicken pieces in salad, baby tomatoes, cucumber, onion, banana and bell peppers, avocado pieces…yummilicious with some ranch dressing and taco powder sprinkled on top
Does it look good?
Re: Healthy, Low Fat Recipes
Chickpeas or channas are high in fiber and protein hence they are considered to be very good for weight loss.
We usually make chickpea stew which tends to get boring at times. Here is an easy way to include them in your daily diet.
Diary of a Homemaker: Crispy, Spicy Roasted Chickpeas
Re: Healthy, Low Fat Recipes
Kebabs and grilled chicken with tandoori/tikka masala are really good options. I usually make them into a salad with quinoa, veggies, olive oil and lemon juice.
Re: Healthy, Low Fat Recipes
Desi style onion, and tomatoes and lemon on them.. we called kachomar… is better salad then Greek Salad. Include this in your meal.
Isabgol in light warm water before meal. Helps in reducing weight and reduce craving of more food.
Early morning glass of water actually flushes digestive system. You can add honey and lemon. Studies suggest… it cuts fat in body
Stop eating rice or take them very limited. Rice are number 1 reason of weight.
Stop eating banana.
Drink more water.
15 to 20 minutes of Brisk walk daily before lunch. if you are lazy in gym.
Stop eating, when you feel that you will be done. Keep your stomach little bit empty.
Don’t drink water before and after meal.
I usually skip lunch on weekend, but I eat good breakfast. (brunch)
Eat more in morning. and then decrease meal amount as day passes. Avoid eating too much in dinner.
Eat less but increase number of meals in a day.
