Healthy foods

With all the recent clean eating and health food craze, I thought there should be a thread where we can share desi recipes for wholesome, healthy foods. There is the obvious stuff such as daals with whole wheat roti, but I keep finding new info such as one of the big superfoods everyone adds to juice these days is chia-seeds and that is the same stuff we add to falooda. Yum. Gives me appreciation for what I previously considered “junk food” category

Re: Healthy foods

All the green leafy raw or cooked, carrots, cucumbers, all kinds of lentils boiled or with little bit of oil, boiled chickpeas, greenpeas, corns, olives, mashrooms (You can make salads), dates, all kinds of fruits offcourse (Specifically, grapes & pomegranate. Though these days am hooked to nutritious simmons or can make salads of all the fruits), salmon fish. Reduce, if you dont wanna remove, from your diet beef, eggs and chicken (They play havoc with your body hormones).

Re: Healthy foods

If I make roti/parathay, its always with multi-grain flour. Otherwise I don't really incorporate roti into my diet much.

Re: Healthy foods

^^ how do you live?!
My down fall is bread and roti.

crap I love my parathas. I made it a lifetime mission to know how to make a propper paratha

Re: Healthy foods

More than anything else, reduce the portion size and reduce the bread and sugar intake for the day. If you are eating roti/bread, just take wholewheat. You can still eat desi and remain healthy.

Eggs are really good for you. I eat at least one everyday. Eggs have gotten bad reputation... Its so sad because I personally love eggs for their taste and nutritional value. If you are worried about cholesterol, eat egg whites.

Re: Healthy foods

I try to keep as fresh as possible. Cooking almost everyday; I am even paranoid about using the microwave, hence the cooking each day right before the meal....And no processed food. I do indulge in popcorn or cheetos every few months but thats about it. Rarely I'll have a soda but mainly its water or cup of milk.

Things included in my diet are.

Eggs
Meat (chicken/mutton, very little red meat)
Fruits (I don't prefer it, but my body needs it)
Whole grains (bread/qinuoa)
Un-cooked veggies
Oils (sunflower/olive)
Hummus
Dry fruit

One thing I can't shake off is tea. I NEED my chai. I tossed coffee in a jiffy. But chai I can't along with my teaspoon of sugar :(
