Diet is v important. For example in USA the most popular sicknesses are diabet, cancer, heart sickneses, alergy, stomach problems and v high level of fat people. The reason-eating style. And one of the most popular health damaging sistem is fast foot reastorants. There was experiment abot one guy who had v good health n low holesterin level. He ate for month every day in Macdonald and moved from one place to another only by car(before-walking).He get stomach and heart problems, high blood presure, problems with liver and a v high level of holesterin. He get v sick.So there we can find how important is diet.So is there is anybody who can share about diet, what is important to eat,how to make ur own diet? And of course what do u eat?
Re: Health is wealth...some steps?
hey missgate...i got this book by a doctor called "total health" . i love it because of its simplicity and straightforwardness in prescribing a diet.
its a big book but summarizing it for u ...the guy is basically saying that there are 3 different types of body types....a protein type, a carbohydrate type and a mixed type... protein type bodies benefit most when they get high amounts of proteins in their diet and minimal carbs...and so on for the others...
as far as carbs are concerned the guy says that EVERYONE needs carbs (unlike the ATKINS approach) BUT the carbs you get should come from veggies like boroccoli, spinach, eggplants, cauliflowers etc etc....with a minimal amount of whole grains.
he strictly forbids the use of all forms of white grains...like rice, corn and breads.... (which includes popcorn, cookies, cakes) and sugar. the book and other testimonials swear by the health benefits you will experience if you even start by cutting down these grains and adding veggies (green ones ) to your diet.
also beware of certain veggies like carrots and radishes /beets that have a high amount of carbs and sugar in them....
also imp for your diet is a rich omega 3 source such as fish (salmon etc)
since its hard to get fish in our diet thru the natural source u can take fish oil supplements.
he stresses the use of only 100% organic products and explains the dangers of the hormones in regular dairy and meat.......i dont think the hormone thingy should be a problem if u are in pakistan though.
what I have learned especially is that in order to ensure your own health you HAVE to be proactive and definitely spend some time in the kitchen to cook your foods and KNOW whats going into it. i used to have occasional breakouts on my skin and i didnt know what i was doing wrong...i thought i was avoiding enough fried stuff and chocolate....but then i saw the way that the desi food i ate was cooked......heaps of oil, veggies fried to death and the sugar added to innocent looking stuff like fruit chaat.....
Re: Health is wealth...some steps?
........continued...
this doctor has been saying for years that sugar has lots and lots of dangers associated with it.....but recently i am also coming across articles....last one i read was in "harper's bazaar" which is a fashion mag ....that white sugar is bad bad bad beyond our imagination. Also an interesting point was the fact that sugar causes wrinkles! also stated by my book....
Re: Health is wealth...some steps?
its important that you eat EVERYTHING... a vide variety of foods.. but my recommendations are:
1. must have green vegetables involved
2. eat an apple after every meal (do not take dessert)
3. you dont need to cook in oil.. body generates ENOUGH oil already food-oil clogs your arteries
4. instead of eating 3 meals a day, eat same amount of food, in 5-6 times ...
5. drink water one hour after the meal, and 6-8 glasses per day
Re: Health is wealth…some steps?
Hey r u talking about that film, erm i think it was called “super-size me” or something like that? Yea i saw that, the stuff about how food comes into American schools was horrible…now the school kitchens aren’t used for cooking anymore, everything is shipped in packages for these kids to eat…and most ppl i know, when we come to America we always GAIN weight, and whenever we go back home, ppl say “u’ve put on some weight”… it’s something in the food here…i guess it’s best to stay away from processed foods/drinks as much as possible and eat fresh stuff…problem for low-income ppl is that, the cheapest foods are the unhealthiest…so u have to spend a little bit more money to lead a healthier lifestyle.
Re: Health is wealth…some steps?
Now carrots are bad too??? ![]()
Hai mai kidher jaoon??? ![]()
How about a handfull of baby carrots daily?
Re: Health is wealth...some steps?
^since when the carrots are bad? There is a lot of beta carotin.it protects even from cancer...
yeah,KashmirRainDrop its that same movie...
well,i ve been studying diet as well.i want to share what i ve learned:the basic of ur food should be sm stuffs like:rise, bread, corns e.t.c.Then secondary comes vegitables n fruits. Then comes meat(not fat, fish, eggs and milk, yogurt e.t.c..and be v careful by using fat,oil and sweets...well and another good thing is to write down everything u eat all week long and then revaluate is it good or not.
im trying every day start to not eat fat and another wrong things but its so hard.Does anyone here can share how they disciplinize themselfes?
Re: Health is wealth...some steps?
What, no mention of working out? I work put 3 times a week. I do weights for 45 minutes and cardio (running) for 35 minutes. I run 25 minutes at my maximum permissible heart rate. 5 minutes warmup, 5 minutes cool-down. What do you do?
Re: Health is wealth…some steps?
25 mins at max permissible rate??? dayummmm! thats impressive man!!!
i run for 30 mins 3 times a week and do weights afterwards… but i do interval training so that i go on max permissible rate for about 2 minutes then slow down for a few minutes and then increase again and so on…
Re: Health is wealth...some steps?
According to my trainer, the weights should be done first and cardio after. BTW max permissible is calculated as (220 - your age) * 0.85. I started out with the lowest rate required which is (220 - age) * 0.65 but found out within 2 weeks that i wasn't even breaking sweat at that rate. So I pushed it upto 0.85 still I have a bloody hard time keeping my heart rate at that (it keeps on coming down) . Right now I running at an incline of 5 at 5 mph. My trainer does not want me to go faster (bad for the knees) but keep on increasing the incline.
Re: Health is wealth…some steps?
AAAHH…im absolutely lasy?i gues but i try to force myself to make exercises every day…i gues its too cold to run now trhere where i am n ppl there r too lasy 2 run ass well.so they dont get used to that?
Re: Health is wealth...some steps?
also beware of certain veggies like carrots and radishes /beets that have a high amount of carbs and sugar in them....
I was reffering to this...
when you are trying to limit your sugar intake, shoud carrots be
off the "what to eat list"?
Re: Health is wealth...some steps?
Moderation is the key, folks!!!! Don't deprive yourself of anything just eat moderately and ofcourse exercise.
Re: Health is wealth...some steps?
Im not agree that its good to eat everything. For example if eat only crisps and sweets and drink up only pepsy...i gues i ll get v big problems with my stomach,,,but its imp to eat everything but in norms!and to choose only good and high quality food.
can enyone explain what is going on with carots...why its not so good to eat?from things what i read above i suppose its not good to eat them...WHY?
Re: Health is wealth…some steps?
Heavens no, carrots are great for you and beets next to blueberries are absolutely the best anti-oxidants. And I don’t think anyone is going to overdose on beets!
Re: Health is wealth...some steps?
sajal- im not going to tell you to completely cross of this stuff from your list (carrots etc) but just wanted to point out that they ARE high in sugar and carbs as compared to OTHER veggies. as the others said moderation is key but its also common sense that if other veggies are healthier you would choose them over the relatively unhealthier ones.
expat- hey thanks for the max heart rate calculator...
i usually run for 30 mins without an incline because my knees hurt...and then walk fast for 5 minutes at an incline of 4-5..
Re: Health is wealth...some steps?
when i said eat 'everything' i meant, eat EVERYTHING .. dont repeat regularly and DONT stick to one..
meaning: no u CANNOT have pepsi + crisp (oil + saturated fat-rich) chips "again and again" :p
gym-fanatics, try running incline 3 for 30 seconds, 4 for a minute (4.5mph) 5 for 12 minutes (6.5 or 7mph) and walking at 2,2.5,2.8 (depending on height) mph for 2 minutes..
do it once or twice, check out your spirit+feelings.. and see if u can adapt that.. but your way is good too... health wise
Re: Health is wealth...some steps?
When u r tired the best what can help is to run at least 10 min.It realy helpes to get the strenght and ability 2 concentrate ur attention.Reason is coz blood makes 1 cycle per minute, but when u do physical activities even 6-9 times. So there4 u get more oxygen and food stuffs...that makes to be more healthy and keeps ur mind clear.
Attention boys!if at age of 20-40 u eat too much of butter and other fats( not oil) u can get v soon heart atack. But knowing how clever u r there in gup-shup i suppose it will not happen...:)
