Health Insurance for parents

So lets say you have a parent move in from back home, how do you go about setting them up for health insurance…medicare/medicaid here in the US?

What are the eligibility requirements. Any personal tips because I hear the process is quite challenging.

Re: Health Insurance for parents

what I have heard so far is that they are not eligible for medicaid or medicare until they become citizens and even then they have to pay for it.

someone correct me if i am wrong

Re: Health Insurance for parents

OK she is a US citizen but under 65. Never worked in the US.

Re: Health Insurance for parents

Medicare is for 65 or older. Also for some who are younger but are eligible due to being handicapped or disabled etc.

Medicaid is for anyone low income.

Both require that the person be citizen since it is paid for by the US Tax money.

Don’t know about any exception.

To find eligibility, one can find a lawyer or an agency to do the paper work. Otherwise medicare or social security online sites can help. One can even go to social security office in local area. Some 800 numbers can be found to speak to representatives.

will need to buy insurance.
but its easier for under 65, over 65 is a tougher deal, very tough to buy with decent coverage, and cant get buy medicare until they become citizens

Re: Health Insurance for parents

Try for medicaid.
She is not eligible for medicare.
I usually go to social security office for all this info. I think its best if you go there. One that handles health.
