I have some family members visiting me soon in U.S. and I do not want them to be without any health insurance in case there is a medical situation. I was hoping to get useful information from any guppies who have knowledge/experience in this area as to what my options are in terms of obtaining a temporary/limited time (3-4 months) insurance? There must be some kind of programs for overseas visitors, no?

Call up some insurance companies. hands Sir Dig a Lot a phonebook
Re: Health Insurance for Overseas Visitors
Depending on which country they are coming from, they should be able to buy travel insurance before comign to the US that covers healthcare costs.
When I lived in the UK and went to the US, I bought travel insurance from American Express UK that covered $1,000,000 of medical treatment in the USA as well as chartering a plane to bring me back to the UK if needed.

Allow me to give you some background information on Sir Dig A Lot. He's a lazy ass mf and absolutely hates calling around to get information. Knowing visitor insurance is not something typical insurance companies specialize in, he wants to get recommendations on specialized programs other Desis might have taken advantage of. In fact, he doesn't even want to run a comparison, he just wants knowledgeable guppies such as Fraudia, to call the company on his behalf and get everything worked out (hint to intended readers here). Being friends with Sir Dig A Lot is like being his personal concierge.
Sir Dig also likes to write in third person.

..I bet that is why he does not have any friends :D
Re: Health Insurance for Overseas Visitors
Oh and by the way - the inspiration for this thread was "Mr. Roman" - Seeing how he's been using this forum like his Khala, asking questions on visas, prescriptions, and driving licenses, I figured "General" must be the designated concierge's desk of Gupshup.

You guys are incredible. People are actually responding to your requests Sir Dig A Lot. By the way, you really don't live up to your name.
Khala General - haha.
Re: Health Insurance for Overseas Visitors
Hey, its a really important thing to look into. Most people dont realize what a huge responsibility it is to have overseas, uninsured guests. We once had some "phobia" types over, you know the kind that have a little muscle ache and think its cancer, need to go for extensive testing. Without insurance, those tests can run into thousands of dollars in no time at all. Granted that this is not the norm but really, even having an upper-respiratory infection requiring antibiotics can run about 500 dollars. Better to be insured for sure!
Re: Health Insurance for Overseas Visitors
On a serious note, travellers insurance is not really all that helpful when something aweful actually happens (at least based on the experience of some folks I know). There is a company called G1g.com (they put a lot of ads in Pak tv channels, as it is owned by a Pakistani. They provide insurance for visiting relatives. Have different plans, and depending upon the age premiums can be high (though not astronomical), but the thing that is a show-stopper is exclusion of pre-existing conditions. if you are trying to insure an older person (65+) chances are their pre-existing conditions will trump every thing. If you find something better, let me know too.

Traverlers insurance for Pakistani visitors
Has anyone bought or have heard people getting travelers insurance for relatives visiting from Pakistan? I know there is a travelers insurance you can buy if you're visiting from US to some other country but my question is about people visiting you from Pakistan. Thanks.

Re: Traverlers insurance for Pakistani visitors
found it. thanks man. here it is: http://www.paklinks.com/gs/showthread.php?t=259310&highlight=insurance
good information.
Re: Traverlers insurance for Pakistani visitors
insuremytrip.com
They're not too expensive...and they would cover all kinds of travel insurance...
Re: Traverlers insurance for Pakistani visitors
Schengen States have made it necessary for all visitors who are non-EU to bring 30,000 Travel/Medical insurance with them, its check at visa for those who need visa & its checked (randomly) at border entry point for all those who need Entry stamp on passport (with or without visa). So even if someone is coming from PK needs it now.
The only problem is that there are not many decent insurance companies in PK & the few (genuine ones) are there are too expensive for Pakistanis.
