There are some good to the bill and some bad.
one provision, when the changes take effect is that if you do not carry insurance, you will be penalized. I don't get it? why the reform, say if someone was not able to get insurance?
one other thing, payroll taxes for employers will be increased, but when employees get their paycheck will they be affected by it also?
Re: health care reform
^ Of course the employees will be affected. Employers will not only shift the cost to the employees, they will reduce the number in work force as well to compensate for the "ObamaCare". There are many other provisions in this bill that if read by these bleeding heart Obama lovers will make them question their messaih's strategy.
^ good point.
Yeah their are some fishy material in the bill, and once the changes take effect I don't know how people will go to these exchanges and find "good deals" rather than the traditional insurance companies. How much premiums will be from these exchanges and how affordable someone can get their health insurance.
Re: health care reform
I hear they hired 16,500 IRS thugs to harass those who protest!? Looks like you guys have been bamboozled once again by the corporate Amreeka.
^its about the contents of the bill.
no sides.
that is what the thread is about. :)
btw, you dont even live in amreeka , how would you know?

Re: health care reform
The Democrats did their best to pass the bill. The bill definitely fell short on a lot of major issues. It doesn't include the public option, does not remove of anti-trust exemption for insurance companies and puts no restrictions on Big Pharma.....these issues are very important for health reform in the US and Pelosi and Obama were all for it but ofcourse not everyone is as sane as them...Republicans and a lot of Democrats showed major opposition to such measures so they had to water down the bill to pass it.
But at least it's a start!! The public option is vital though! Hopefully, Obama can slowly work it in as time passes!
Re: health care reform
augustsubshine or lack thereof, why exactly do you think that people are entitled to mooch from others and have a free ride. Let me just remind you of other "sane" experiment by dems and how they went.
Welfare System: Turned into kid producing machines/women (mostly black and Latino)
I guarntee that you have not taken the time to read the bill/lesiglation If you did you would have woken up and realized that there are number of small provisions in there that make it is "insane" bill. For example, if you do not have "Govt. Approved" insuarnce yoy can be fined up to 2.5% of your income and 6 months of jail time ...Hello, when did US turn into China? Additional taxes on corportaions : specifically 35% tax on the funds that they have been setting aside for the reitiress insurance. These are just two sample, please stop being a sheeple and read the actual bill not what the wicked witch of the west vomits or Obama blows out of his arse.
Wow I didn't know I got on your bad side...if I had known you are akin to some old, white guy who fantasizes about bombing Iran I would have avoided you at all costs.
The US is the ONLY 'developed' country that does not offer free health care. It's not about free riding...it would be free riding if there was NO discrimination to begin with. You must be living in a fool's paradise to think that ALL the people who are poor, homeless, needy are so because of their own doing. Ever heard of racism, sexism, fascism??? Yes it all exists very much so in this American society. It's not very straight forward....like it or not! The rich have already been privileged and the poor are further getting submerged into poverty!
Government is not the answer for everything but government is definitely the answer for providing people with BASIC health care! And if that means taxing the rich, then so be it! Have you noticed the increase in gap between the rich and poor ever since Reagan came into power??? You must be so naive to think that insurance companies are these innocent angels providing health care coverage and working so hard to make sure everyone is covered. They are VULTURES! As soon as they find out you have a terminal illness, they pull out the plug and you're no longer eligible for their coverage.
Damn right the health care insurance needs to be overlooked by the government to PREVENT predatroy behavior by these insurance executives so they can ACTUALLY provide coverage to the people and not be too busy taking home their fat paychecks!
Regulation is MANDATORY. It's the lack of regulation that brought about the financial crisis! It's the lack of regulation that has the health care in a big mess. It's the lack of regulation that has allowed these greedy bank, insurance, and pharma executives to make ridiculous amounts of profits at the expense of laymen!
You might think that that's your definition of democracy but that's just outright fascism and serves no one but a select few i.e the top1% of American society! So please take your fascist theories to Palin and maybe you can have coffee with her while you look over Russia from her rooftop but spare me all this crap.
Re: health care reform
My concern is not the intent of the bill but the numbers behind it. It's almost a $1 Trillion dollar package, with many arcane regs and I am not sure it will be administered. But then again, I am not as impacted as I am not a citizen of the US. In my home country, Swissland, we have a great public health system, and fortunately is not under risk of being usurped by the EU.

Can you explain why I should pay a higher tax rate, almost deductions or tax credits and yet still be expected to pay even more taxes just because I make over 250K?
I have no problem helping those less fortunate but I do that voluntarily. And when I donate voluntarily I also make sure the money goes where it is needed and is used efficiently.
When the govt takes my money forcibly all that happens is they hire more administrators. The number of people in govt jobs making over 160K has shot up several times over within the past decade.
So most people who think I should pay even more taxes are just frauds
Re: health care reform
You are expected to pay higher taxes coz that's the least you can do for a country that has given you so many opportunities. It's called redistribution of wealth. Taxes go toward government programs for people that have not had the same opportunities that you were blessed with. It's not a pretty world out there...discrimination, racism, sexism is rampant and the poor aren't always poor because of their choice and the rich aren't always rich coz of their hard work....often it simply boils down to your pedigree!
I don't know if you're aware of this but redistribution of your wealth is a very vital part of your religion too.
If you don't want to be part of this system pack your bags and go to Pakistan...they don't care much for taxes there. But if you want to enjoy the benefits granted to you in this country, then be prepared to pay the taxes. It's the least you can to contribute to the promotion of equality in your country.
Re: health care reform
how do you know I was 'given' opportunities? you are absolutely wrong. I was not 'given' anything by anyone. I worked hard and earned my income by providing goods and services to people who voluntarily buy them because they can't make them themselves.
It is called WORKING HARD AND SUPPORTING ONESELF.
Why the heck should my wealth this earned be redistributed to lazy loafers whose only creativity is making babies?
No religion says wealth is to be redistributed and if any religion says that it is nothing but a communistic cult.
Yeah if I pack my bags and leave, a hundred loafers will lose their free dole because the government will no longer get the bloddsucking taxes from me. for foolish bleeding hearts such as you that should be a big problem. How the heck are you going to redistribute anything after people like me who make the wealth in the first place leave?
by the way, don't worry - I am not leaving and continue fighting the good fight for lower taxes.
Did you read the part about voluntary charity?
free condoms, free healthcare, free bus rides, free food stamps, free everything - what a bunch of free loaders! you should be ashamed to live of others work!
Re: health care reform
bad news for doctors, hay days are gone. I hear salary caps for them are part of the package.

Buddy, I am a corporate lawyer for a Big Firm so I am paying my share of taxes and have no qualms about it. Just because you weren't given opportunities and had to work hard (however relative that term may be), doesn't mean it applies to every American out there. Just as there are free loaders of the welfare system, there are corrupt executives who earn millions at the expense of innocent taxpayers so please spare me how the poor just sit there and feed off of you. By the way if you leave, it won't make much of a difference since YOU are only one of 300 million people living in the US so please don't give yourself undue credit.
Also, the poorest of the poor have always had the free health care and food stamps. It's the lower middle class that always gets screwed by the rich and powerful. They don't even qualify for government subsidies yet have to pay taxes towards greedy banks and institutions who get into a mess coz of their own wrongdoing.
You can NOT look at YOUR personal experience and draw this overly broad assumption that poor, homeless or even lower middle class = lazy and the rich, successful = hardworking...you must be incredibly naive to make such an assumption.
I don't know what your religion is but my religion definitely tells me to redistribute wealth as it's the essence of a successful society. If you don't do that, the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer thus further pushing society into a vicious circle of inequity, discrimination and racism.
