Headaches

I’ve noticed that when I have a headache…Panadol and Ibuprofen tend to work faster for than Tylenol and Advil. The latter two can take a pretty long time. I think once I took Tylenol and hours later, I still had the headache…only happened once though. So, what accounts for the difference? Has my body developed tolerance…or is it possible that acetaminophen (which is in Tylenol) will take longer to work on you if you’re more used to the parcetamol in let’s say…Panadol? Or maybe it’s all in my head.

Re: Headaches

RV...I have the same situation when I have a headache. I don't remember the last time I took Tylenol for this reason...it never works on me and at times I feel it gets worse.

I keep Motrin around for those days or Aleve.

Re: Headaches

I've noticed that as well. I feel as though the pain intensifies when I take Advil/Tylenol before i get any relief.....and that takes longer than the other medications. I was just wondering why that happened.

Re: Headaches

Tylenol=Acetominophen=Parcetamol=Panadol

Ibuprofen=Motrin=Advil

Most people agree that the second group works much better for treating headaches. In fact, usually 'the second group' is always reccommended over the 'first group'

If your saying Panadol works better than Tylenol OR Ibuprofen works better than Advil..........then I think it might be just in your head. Because essentially they are the exact same thing (chemical wise) just different names. Then again, I know people who believe 100% one works better than the other.

On the other hand if your saying Ibuprofen/Advil works better than Panadol/Tylenol then that makes more sense. Since those are chemically different from one another.

Hope that made sense.

Re: Headaches

^Thanks Guac.

Actually, the Panadol and Ibuprofen work faster for me than Tylenol and Advil......which is odd if Advil is the same composition as IB. Could be in my head, but doesn't feel like it.

Re: Headaches

^It's not just you. There are many people who feel this way. It happens with prescription drugs all the time. People would rather pay 4X the amount for a 'brand' drug rather than a generic because they feel it works better. Even though chemically they are the exact same.

You should carry on your experiment and try Motrin and see what happens.......since its also the same as Advil and Ibuprofen, it would be interesting :]
