Head scarves/veils/hijabs - um whatever you personally call it.
i had a Roman Catholic friend, whose family was very actively religious in the sense that you could tell they were spiritual, they attended church every single week, and had a strong faith in general. She told me that, according to her religious beliefs, she is required to cover her hair - which she did not, but she acknowledged her faith does require her to. (She is in the same situation as me… my inbox is pretty much full, please send your e-fatwas condemning me to hell, later; thank you in advance).
Now i’m wondering. She’s Lebanese and lived in Lebanon for most of her life until immigrating to Canada. i am just wondering - is this a religious edict that is found in Roman Catholicism in general regardless of where you live or is this, perhaps, a mixture of some aspects of religious beliefs but intertwined with cultural beliefs as well. She lived in Lebanon, it’s possible that the Muslim culture mixed with some of her family’s ancestral religious beliefs - know what i’m saying? So is wearing a head scarf an actual part of Roman Catholicism (and for that matter, other faiths), or is it a dynamic mix between culture and religion that leads to nonMuslims being prescribed to wear headscarves?
Just remembered - on tv, they show pictures on the news of Jewish women on Palestinian Territories…and some of them are wearing those bonnet type thingies (that kinda remind me of Amish women). Is that a religious edict as well?
