Sunni or shia .... the militants would have perceived him as leading those collaborating with the occupation so regardless of his fiqh he owuld have been a marked man.
And yes, he definately was a Shia. He led the Islamic Dawa party. The group used to set off bombs in Baghdad under Saddam but became a respectable political party instead once he was toppled.
Anyone who sides with an invader/terrorist is a legit target... good riddance

Is allowing to function a regime that promotes the interests of a foreign power, correct? When the people revolt against that regime and it's leaders, and are shut by gunpowder, is that correct?
