He is no burden

A man was walking down the streets of a Chinese city. He saw children who were carrying smaller children on their backs, and managing at the same time to play their games. ‘It is too bad,’ the man sympathetically said to one little boy, ‘that you have to carry such a heavy burden!’ ‘He’s no burden,’ came the quick reply; ‘he’s my brother.’ ‘Well, you are gracious to say so!’ said the man, and he gave the boy some money. If a little Chinese boy can carry and care for his brother and refuse to consider him as a burden, surely we ought not to think it a burden to carry our little brothers, the weak and the needy ones, who look to us for help with empty stomachs. Let us rejoice as we carry others, and say by our actions, ‘He’s no burden; he’s my brother.”

Re: He is no burden

Very sweet. Only when we forget their are our brothers does it become a burden

it would be idiotic for the kid to carry his brother on his back when the brother grows older and refuses to walk and wants to be carried by others, and expects and demands it.

likewise, while we should help others, those who can support themselves but choose not to, need some tough love and be made to walk. helped, yes, but not by carrying, but by helping them learn to stand on their own two feet.

because, while you are carrying those who can stand on their own feet but choose not to, you are ignoring those who actually need you to carry them.

Re: He is no burden

i agree, Fraudia bhai. you make a really logical argument here.
self reliance is the first step to being helping and helpful to others.
thanks for reminding that to all.
