HDTV and Windows media player

I just connected my dell laptop to my HDTV though the VGA cable. Everything is working fine but when I try to play anything through windows media player the HDTV stops responding but it plays on the laptop. Does anyone know the cause of this problem or how to fix it?

I dont think that VGA receptor of your HDTV can read HD signals .. you need VGA to Composite convereter like this to watch HDTV through your laptop

You have to make your HDTV your primary display for the video to appear on the HDTV. Video will not appear on the secondary display.
