Hazrat Ismael (as) or Hazrat Ishaq (as)

While explaining to one of my coworkers about the essence and history of Eid-ul-Edha, the topic of the sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim (as) & Hazrat Ismael (as) came up.

Being a Christian she had always believed the one sacrificed to be Hazrat Ishaq (as) and not Hazrat Ismael (as) … as our discussion progressed she persisted to quote Bible (Genesis: 22) and I persisted with Quran. (Chapter 37 AS-Saaffaat, verses 100-110)

I just wanted to ask people here if they have some input on this issue. Any historical facts, or any logical arguments? Any web-sites with some good information will be greatly appriciated!

Peace!

The name of the child is not stated in the Quran but it is a concensus amongst Muslim scholars that was Hazrat Ismaeel. Because of being childless for a long time Hazrat Ismaeel was the first child and his sacrifice gives an added dimension to the whole ordeal. Hazrat Ishaaq was the second son and given as a gift by Allah.

Thank you Wadi, but what good is the concensus of Muslim scholars in front of my Christian friend?
