Arabs never use this title before the names of Prophets (A) or the Companions (R).
Is it something the Muslims of the sub-continent invented?
Does it mean Sir.?

Its just to show respect i think
"hadhrat" is used in the urdu language....
just as "Sir" or "Mister" wud be in english....
in arabic they usually affix "sayedena" instead....
