Hawaiin theme bridal shower..

We are throwing a bridal shower for one of our best friends.. theme is Hawaii.. we want to have really good decor and games, would like to keep the menu simple, most probably limited to fingerfood n drinks and after party pizza n pasta.. does that seem okay?

We were thinking about keeping the dress code for all the girls attending… not vert strict but thinking about keeping it western and limited to three colors only.. is that too much to ask for?

any ideas regarding the decor, favors, menu??? Please share!

Re: Hawaiin theme bridal shower..

i threw a hawaiian birthday for the hubs a few years back- its a fun theme and really great for a bridal shower too.
we got lots of leis (flower haar’s, essentially) from the dollar store, the girls had flowers tucked behind one year, and everyone was in fun colors like white, pale blue, yellow, etc and wearing light summer clothes. lots of skirts.
you can get margarita glasses from the dollar store too and put whatever drink you want in them with a paper umbrella and a slice of lime. there’s lots of recipes for non-alkie drinks out there and you can make them in different bright colors.
if you want real flowers, orchids are perfect. you can float them in shallow bowls of water.
and of course, pick up some grass skirts too that girls can wear over their tights or jeans if they like- those are at the dollar store as well.
your menu sounds great! you can set the table with flowers on a brightly patterned table cloth.

Re: Hawaiin theme bridal shower..

I know you want simple but I gues, I went overboard with my suggestions as I loved your idea. Let me calm down a bit and I’ll think on simple lines. LOL!

An inspiration board:

Encourage your guests to come dressed for the beach complete with grass skirts and brightly patterned shirts. Hint that there’ll be a prize for the “best dressed”. I love these colours and they will work well with your theme:

An invitation telling guests what to wear:

Favors can include shells, brightly colored leis and other island themed items.

Decor:

For the decoration part, use huge posters to create that sweet effect of a sunset on the beach, along with rubber palm trees, tropical fruit baskets, orchids, a couple of hammocks, grass shacks. And paint the words ‘Aloha’ on some old surfboard and put it at the door for added effect. Use stand up card board palm trees, Tiki torches and island grass garland and partitions.

FOOD:

Trays of fresh fruits and veggies are a must. Hollow out a watermelon and fill with chunks of papaya, pineapple and other fruit. For a visual treat, carve a design into a fresh watermelon. The red design against the green rind will be a beautiful centerpiece. Make sure to get an extra melon so guests can enjoy the fresh summer treat.

Set up a bar with brightly colored glasses so your guests can make their own “Hawaiian Sunrise” drinks!

Another twist is a fruit fondue with steaming chcolate sauce and cute, themed toothpicks.

You can also include full Hawaiian bar-be-que with ribs, chicken and pineapple chunks served with fresh rolls to counteract the sweets.

Another option is grilled mahi-mahi (fish) with mango salsa and some grilled veggies over rice.

For dessert, offer tropical sorbets or fruit kabobs drizzled with chcolate or strawberry sauce.

Have a cake made in the shape of a palm tree, hula dancer, or pink flamingo. Just make sure that it has your bride-to-be’s favorite flavors. Strawberry and lemon are delicious and sometimes overlooked in favor of vanilla or chocolate. You might also consider blueberry, coconut or orange with a complimentary icing.

Re: Hawaiin theme bridal shower..

A few games:

Hula Craze:

Each group member will be assigned one song each and is required to do the hula while her song is playing. If a member fails to do a complete hula on her song, another member could "rescue" the team by doing the hula to both their songs. Rescuing could only be done by a succeeding member, hence, the trick is to have the best person to come last, just in case she needs to do a lot of rescuing.

The group who was able to complete with the least amount of rescuing, wins the game. If you need to break a tie or two, then just let the group start all over again, so as to determine who are the real hula kings and queens!

Tip: This is a great activity to loosen ones reticence, since who could stay modest and shy, after doing a bit of hula hooping? Wedding songs or any favorite songs of the bride-to-be will be a great song candidate.

Perfect Catch:

Prepare a number of colorful bouquets, since colorful flowers are a MUST in any luau shower.

The bride-to-be will throw the bouquet backwards towards her guests. Since, she gets to throw more than one bouquet, the guest who was able to catch the most number of bouquet, wins the game.

Sand Art:

This is best played in groups. The idea is for your guests to create a sand art (if you're not in the beach, you can just use dough) that will creatively describe what the bride-to-be can expect during or after the wedding. This can range from things that will happen in the honeymoon, after the couple's first meal together, and the like.

The group of artists who was able to impress the bride-to-be the most, wins this activity.

Pineapple Iced Tea
Ingredients:

  • 6 tea bags
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 cups boiling water
  • fresh mint
  • juice of 3 lemons
  • 5 tablespoons pineapple juice

Preparation:

Place tea bags and sugar in a 2-quart pitcher.
Add 4 cups of boiling water.
Steep for 15 minutes.
Remove tea bags.
Steep fresh mint leaves in tea for at least 3 minutes.
Remove mint leaves.
Add lemon and pineapple juices.
Fill the pitcher with cold water.
Serve over ice.
Garnish with pineapple and fresh mint leaves.

More games:

  • How well do you know the bride?

Have the bride write out maybe 10 or so questions about herself/her courtship, then give paper out to the guest and ask them to answer the questions. The person (or top 2-3 people, depending on the size of the party) gets a gift, like a cute candle.

  • In Focus with the bride:

Ask all the guest to bring some photos of themselves with the bride. Have each guest design a scrapbook page with the photos and put that in a scrapbook for the bride. Things to include on the page: proverbs about marriage, marriage advise, funny stories, etc.
