Hawaii

I’m considering a trip to Hawaii in April…either Honolulu or Maui. If you’ve been to Hawaii, which island and hotels would you recommend?
I’ve looked at prices on Hotwire and Kayak, and they seem reasonable. Is there any other place you’d recommend to find good deals?

Re: Hawaii

One thing I will warn you about it not to go anywhere off the beaten path without a either a big group or a good guide. From what I have heard several different types the natives in small towns are not very friendly. Specially if you are kinda alone or just a few people they might run you off.

Re: Hawaii

I heard about that for other islands in the carribean and islands in bahamas, but Hawaii too? I thought we were still in America :~)

You are still in America. Try going to the 5th ward in Houston and come out of it alive. Specially at night time.

Hawaii still is very weird in parts and very isolated.

I travel to Hawaii all the time for business, and the Hawaiians (both local and transplanted) are known for their "Aloha" spirit. Aloha means both love, welcome and hello in the Hawaiian language.

As a matter of fact, I am in Hawaii at this very moment.

I would recommend going to the island of Oahu (Honolulu, Waikiki). It is the most cosmopolitan, and has the widest variety of things to do - from beaches, shopping to hikes and events.

For booking - you could try going to the sites of individual hotels, they generally post their best fares online.

Generally everyone here is friendly to visitors (in my experience) but of course, like any place, there are some 'bad apples'.

But most of the time, this occurs because some of the visitors have a 'superior' attitude. They definitely prescribe to the 'you get what you give' mentality. :)

I love being able to travel to Hawaii for work. :)

Sky - what do you like to do when you travel? Based on this, I could give you some suggestions.

For example, if you like the hustle bustle, shopping etc and want to see the famous Waikiki area, you should stay in Waikiki itself.

However, if you want more of a relaxing atmosphere, you could try the north shore.

Re: Hawaii

I changed my mind and now planning on going to Miami instead.
Will open a thread soon asking about people's experience and recommendations.
