ppl look at it this way MAYBE , ke wht they invest on their daughters isnt returned to them…but wht they invest on their sons in education , marriage etc is returned to them when the son earns and takes care of them financially , gets married and brings a bahu to take care of them , and brings kids unki nasal chalaney ke liye.

So in accounting terms, male offspring is an asset in the balance sheet of a persons life which creates income, whereas the girl is a revenue expenditure

He used to say ke Allah kamaz kam ek awara beta hi de deta....

he used to choose name for boys maga r jab larki hoti to ussi naam ko larkion wala kar dete the...

Iqbal,shahid-shaheda,khalid-Khaleda,gaus-gausia....:D

I think reason for desire for male offspring was due to social status of women at that time...

What do you mean by social status. In Desi culture, in some families women were the head of family, but those heads even didn't want daughters in the family.

but why so ?

Because people sale out katta / bachRa in meat market and keep the katti with them for future benefits. Seems all relationships (between human-human and human-animal) run on economic basis.

What do you mean by social status. In Desi culture, in some families women were the head of family, but those heads even didn't want daughters in the family.

ji magar fir bhi uss female head ko males par hi depend hona parta tha kisi bhi faisle ko execute karne ke liye....:D

The question is not whether a womancan wander in nights, the question is whether or not our society allow / accept such things from women.

WHat ever our society accepts but there are restrictions to power of both the sexes......

What a man can do women can not follow every thing he is doing and vice versa....

Thats why in old days people wanted male child...

In todays world a girl can take care of her parents more efficiently than boys....:)

I have had thoughts too at times ki “if only i was a guy , i could hv helped my parents more”
