I heard about 6 months cuz that time if you are breastfeeding, but when baby starts solids then…?

Is there any medication to take?

Thanks.

Re: Having periods after baby.

I have heard that if you are breastfeeding, sometimes u might not have period till you stop. But its not allways the case. Maybe ask ur doc.

Re: Having periods after baby.

^ never heard of that one... All I know is that your tap's on for a month or so after you have the baby and then it's back to normal cycle

Re: Having periods after baby.

so....is it like a normal type of period (the 40 days) or wat? and is it rly 40 days or give n take a few?

Yes it is normal and happened to my sister in law, she didn't bleed for one year after her first baby .....but it has nothing to do with breast feeding.

Re: Having periods after baby.

^ um..i think it is related to breast-feeding, at least that's what I've always heard.

I nursed my first for about 2 months, and I was on normal cycle very soon after that, but with my second,I nursed him for more than a year and my whole cycle was off.
And WHY would you want it to start anyway? lol

Re: Having periods after baby.

^Yeah...specially in this hot weather.

Re: Having periods after baby.

if breast feeding ,then its normal. i used to go "free" for more than a year.....

Re: Having periods after baby.

Breastfeeding can inhibit ovulation (but it doesn't always, as my mother found out while feeding me and discovering she was sick with my brother :D ). It's probably your body's way of limiting all the stress on it. Is it true that when you're pregnant you can no longer breastfeed?

Re: Having periods after baby.

yah i think its normal. I didnt get mine till about 8 months after having my daughter.

Re: Having periods after baby.

i breastfed my 3 kids for 18months+, and my periods were regular, i even got pregnant whilst breastfeeding...i think everyone is different.
Sahar you can continue to breastfeed once you are pregnant as long as you are eating healthy, some women continue to breastfeed up until they have given birth to the child they are pregnant with...personally i don't know how they do it

Re: Having periods after baby.

wow.

Re: Having periods after baby.

Albelli,

If you bottle feed your baby, or combine bottle feeding and breastfeeding, your first period could start as soon as 5-6 weeks after you give birth.

If you only breastfeed, it is possible that your periods may not start again until you stop breastfeeding. This is your body's way of preventing additional pregnancies while you have a small baby.... but as you can read from the responses above, it's different for everyone. :)

it's not that you can't breastfeed anymore, it's suggested that you don't so that you have a 'supply' for when the next little one comes around.

i know my cousin was breastfeeding, and when she found out she was pregnant again, the docs told her to start on forumla for first one.

maybe she's trying for another one ;)

Re: Having periods after baby.

really u dont get periods after abby for 6to 12 montsh i didnt know abt it..
i thought u bleed right after babby for 40 days and then after month u back to normal periods cycle....

Re: Having periods after baby.

Forumula or breastmilk is to be a baby' smain source of nutrition till 1 years of age. So even if you start solids, i dont think you would be feeding them solids only. Unless you are trying to get pregnant again, i wouldnt even worry about getting the periods back since its normal to not have your periods until you wean off or atleast when teh night feedings are gone. If you are trying to get pregnant, maybe you should talk to your doc about weaning your baby and use forumula.

it's normal not to have it. as for myself, i've gone over a year without any periods with both of my kids. and yes i do breastfeed.

Re: Having periods after baby.

hope it will be ok, no i am not try for the other. i was jus curious.

Re: Having periods after baby.

Usually but not always, breastfeeding mothers don't get menses. Thats why breastfeeding is a natural way of family planning. Thats one of the benefits of breastfeeding.
