Dude, they wanted me to work in the meat aisle! The non - halal meat aisle in a Jewish superstore, my daddi would have given me slaps! :D
Seriously though, Brent X, on a Saturday, Marks and Spencers, meat aisle, in the summer = no nicey.
Plus, Lee (yummy Lee) was in the fruit and veg section. :(

i loved working used to be so much fun but my mom would never let me miss any of our family dinners she would always tell me a day before and expect me to get a day off.. so i had to make excuses and yes sometimes i would start caughing a day before calling in sick.. my supervisor was a close friend she usually tried to switch around shifts but when she couldnt she would give me ideas on what to say when calling in.. a co-worker called in sick saying he had chicken pox and was seen by another supervisor the same night at a club 
not sure if he got fired

If your straightforward they are most likely to give you day off or leave early. Finding a excuse not to work or another reason, haven’t done that yet 
Which reminds me I have to be somewhere on Thursday and will be asking to leave early for that day

I called in sick at my first job after MBA, citibank because I hated the company, the environment, the team and the boss. it was an extremely hostile environment with attrition rates to match. and then I just quit without a job offer but i had interviewed with another place and it looked promising, I just could not take it any more. It was not that I was not performing, I was always within top 2 of my team, but had an abusive boss who got fired for being a prick and the caretaker boss was a freaking moron.
These days i rarely take sick days, and even if i do, I end up working part of the time, getting in conf calls or hitting some of the back burner projects low on priority list. For years I did not use all my vacation days, and its just now over last couple of years that I am using them, because being such a workaholic that you don't have any free time is not healthy.

in highschool here you have this thing called schoolsoft, you get to see your schedule there, your grades and also mark yourself absence when you are sick. after i got 18, i was allowed to log in to it by my own, not the parents, so i would mark myself sick when i didnt want to go to school. would tell mom, i have no lessons today. :D BUT i only did that when i knew the lesson was pretty much useless, this was in the final year when we basically had nothing to do during lessons. lol
