Re: Have you ever faced any overt racism??

^yes it is. If you ready for consequences. Its good teach people the lesson they deserve.
Good Job peer sahib!!

Re: Have you ever faced any overt racism??

what kind of consequences are you talking about?

Re: Have you ever faced any overt racism??

I don't know.
They could start a fight or some thing, if you could hold you self well , then yes you should go ahead and tell them off or what ever.

Re: Have you ever faced any overt racism??

depends on the situation, if I did not kow I was only a few locks from the TKE house who got along well with PSK and knew me well, i may not have pissed the hillbillies further.

sometimes taking a stand and telling ppl off publcially is the best thing, in some cases its not. another example where I openly gave someone a piece of my mind was when i was working for a startup.

this one dude at work kept getting on my case and I kept politely walking away until one time he attacked me in the worst possible situation, we all were working in a war room scenario for some critical deadlines including the CEO, I just said loudly something like, Rich, I have asked you politely a few times that this is offensive and i dont find it humourous, but this has to stop "now", I am asking you one last time to back off now or I will do what I need to do. essentially telling him its going to HR, the issue for him was he thought it was funny, and was doing it in front of a number of people who could be used as witnesses. He backed off.

u get fingerprinted and photographed in ur own airport too every time u enter or leave. so much for not being third class citizens

Re: Have you ever faced any overt racism??

You tell them dude… I guess it’s difficult for our people to peek into their own proverbial girebaans. I’ve only spent three years in Pakistan during my teens but I saw and heard enough to dredge up whenever someone talks about racism and discrimination.

I mean…c’mon… we didn’t even spare a term like “bhooka Bengali”… I heard it a few times as a quip before realizing that the term originated from the great Begal famine of the 1940s where more people died than in world war II. So much for our “pure” Pakistani society! no envying the average white trash redneck from the Appalachians.

Coming back to the topic on hand, whether I’ve faced overt racism myself, I can perhaps distinctly only remember a couple of minor instances of blatant and explicit racism… passer-by comments really which I tend to ignore.

Re: Have you ever faced any overt racism??

Never. I was afraid I would be targeted because I live in South but to my surprise nobody ever attacked me.

Re: Have you ever faced any overt racism??

brother forget not doctor juma khan :hoonh:

Re: Have you ever faced any overt racism??

lol zobia, oh-KAY here we will go once again! That one precious doctor khan makes up for all the ills and issues that have ever been encountered in pakistan lol!!

Shikra, Inshallah it will always be like this for you, that you never experience any sort of racism! Sadly though it does exist - here and everywhere. Just know that if you do happen to be a victim of it, that it reflects not upon you but upon the ignorant perpetrator.

Re: Have you ever faced any overt racism??

:hmmm:

Re: Have you ever faced any overt racism??

no mama, that doc actually always asked for his fees first. once his son was the victim, and without looking his face he asked for for the money. but since the people who brought him his son to the hospital didn’t know the guy so no one came forward to help his son. and his son passed away ONLE CUZ OF HIS DOC FATHERS GREED!

ps. **one of my cousin was also lying on Lahore road for two hours after got hit by the car. no one dare to call any hospital or police. (and the guy who hit him they just ran away). then he died (inna lillahe wa inna ilaihi rajioon) which is load better than being paralyzed and depend on other first class pakistani citizens (at least we third class pakistanis do have same health facilities as first class citizens of these countries and no one have to be dependent on any one else)

…this is what happens with first class citizen in Pakistan :teary2:**

Re: Have you ever faced any overt racism??

Wow. Growing up...around the time I was in 4-5th grade, got a lot of crap...but mainly not many people knew diffrence between pak/indians...and id be called a "hindu"...it just pissed the hell out of me!! not so much they called me indian..but moreso that they are calling me out based on brown skin tone...i used to curse em out right back!!!
I also had 1 similar scenario at work where this stupid yahudi guy was always in my face with little comments here n there indirectly trying to mock me becuz I am muslim, especially refererring to iraq and other stuff. Once I think we were on like to pick up something and he had the nerve to make a comment/question... I was very offended. And I told him LOUD and clear I do not appreciate those comments, I better not here it again or I am going straight to HR....and I went back and sent few e-mails to my manager. Basically I was keeping a physical trail of things he said, so I had enuff to go to HR with. I HATE ignorant folks. Who the hell really belongs here anyways? Weren't the native americans here already before Columbus "discovered" America...grr
