ie an earthquake, a flood etc?
Re: Have you ever experienced a natural 'disaster'
I've experienced a couple of minor earthquakes.......but nothing too bad (thankfully)
Re: Have you ever experienced a natural ‘disaster’
Although on being a “main patti” to natural disasters, alhamdulillah Karachi has always been safe and no big incidence has occurred. Still small earthquakes have been felt throughout the history and I would like to share an incident here, I went through, the last time I visited Pakistan.
I was on shopping as does everyone when coming back to their place. I took my elder sister along. Had to have some ready-made dresses and was in Dolmen Mall, where all the Ego and Change shops are. I had bought a couple of suits already and was in Threadz. It’s when I had chosen my suits and was on counter for payment when my sister said, she felt something on the floor.
She said that, I looked back at her and everything was ok… she smiled and said to a salesgirl, “felt like, I have felt something like floor unbalancing” … I said, Oh! Come on and got back my face to the counter… just in a couple of seconds she said a bit loud, “No! I think there is something really going on…”, “do you feel it??” there she asked once again and the salesman was also there who said, “yes, I did too”… I looked back again and I said, What? and all three of them, salesgirl, salesman and my sister was agreeing to the same point that there is something they have felt the second time… just then the person on counter said, “it must be some drilling and construction going on, on the lower or same floor… probably that’s what we are feeling”… All said, yes, maybe!! (Everyone who has been to Dolmen Mall Tariq Road, knows that the upper floors are still under constructions so what he said was nothing illogical).
Then I turned back and then before I could speak, me and the person on counter saw the Computer Screen moving really fast and then the dummies on the floor too… that was the moment when nothing was to be said, because…everyone just seen in each other’s eyes and we knew…its SOMETHING!!
Alhamdulillah, I have always been a person, who is so active with the senses in such situations and I don’t go blank. Unfortunately my sister isn’t… she gets numb in such situations…
I dropped everything and yelled at her, “RUN”… and I ran… She just couldn’t… she was taking slow steps… in fact slower than usual…I could feel her blood pressure was going low and she was just not listening my “RUN” word… I almost Shouted at her, moved her, grabbed her and once again yelled, “RUN aapi”… and then she again said…“hm…what…??” …she was more of like in crying mode, didn’t cry though but I could see that she has no control over her senses… I was running all this time… she was watching me… I turned back and yelled at her, “DON’T YOU HEAR ME, JUST RUN AND GET OUT OF HERE… RIGHT NOW!!!” Then I think she started reacting.
The stupid and licchar guys of Dolmen Mall were laughing, walking aside and passing stupid comments to everyone who was making efforts to get out of the Mall, “aray Baji kuch nahin hua..baji kyun bhaag rahi hain?” and etc and dil ker raha tha wahi joota khench ke maarun… I could have been more fast getting out but I was helpless because of my sister behind, couldn’t leave her.
More annoying was the part when the stupid people were just standing on the elevators and the elevators were moving as slow as always and are meant to be… women were mostly scared but they were all like… hairan O pareshan and there even I shouted, “Please side p hojaen…apnay chal ke nahin utarna to jaga de den so that we can get out of here” Jab ja ke they made some space…tab tak, my sis reached to me, I grabbed her hand tightly and told her to be vigilant and active and not to loose senses…
We somehow made to get out of the Mall and right in the front saw an auto, we just sat in it and told the auto wala where we had to go, he was laughing and we were like, did you see what was happening to the Mall? and he replied, “Baji, Mall kia poori sarkain hill rahi theen, gariyan” & etc (he was not chalaing rikshaw, he was still standing out too) and me and aapi was like, “WHAT?? it was an earthquake???” Lol, there I literally laughed out loud because due to the construction, all this time I had been thinking, that it was something within the Mall and god forbid it was about to demolish… :cb: and when I saw my sister, she was crying and shivering…uffffffff… there I stopped her and said, Oh, aapi, its ok!! we are at a safer place now
tried to make her smile and she was ok by then… just then she realized and said, “Tumhara bag??? tumhari shopping???” :smack: I left the entire shopping on Threadz Counter. Then the auto driver said, kia karoon, chalen ya jana hay mall main doobara?, then I said to my sister, lets wait for like 10 minutes and then we’ll go… by then, she felt ok too. And then we went back in the Mall after like 10 minutes and carried on with our shopping. But I must say, it WAS a bad experience and alhamdulillah no one was hurt. The shakes on richter scale were noted to be around 7.5 I guess… I received the call from my hubby after half an hour, he said, I have heard Karachi main earthquake aaya hay :hehe: and I said, yes, and we are here… in the Mall, he said, he had been trying for a long while and was facing signal issues.
Anyways, long story short… we were safe, got back to home and it is something I can NEVER forget maybe! but that at least helped me in knowing my power… Power of being in senses when Allah na karay something worst happens and I pray to Allah ke main hamesha aisay hi senses main rahun khuda na karay koi bura waqt aaye to!! Because senselessness insaan ko le doobti hay!!
P.S., Here’s the report..

Re: Have you ever experienced a natural 'disaster'
Earthquake jolts and Severe Floods.. Also some very heavy wind storms with speeds of more than 150km/h
Re: Have you ever experienced a natural 'disaster'
Yep...the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan. We lived about 500 km from the epicenter of the quake, yet we ended up getting a crack in one of the walls of our home. Imagine what the people at the epicenter went through. Balakot was completely wiped out.
Re: Have you ever experienced a natural 'disaster'
Yes I experienced 2005 earthquake as well. I was in my office (fourth floor) and with each passing second the intensity was increasing. The building was shaking violently, me and my colleague went to the stairs as it's not advised to use lifts during something like that. We decided against going down the stairs as if the building were to collapse there was no possibility for us escaping. Anyways went back and waited, the intensity was increasing and heavy lockers/cupboards shaking. After 90 seconds when the earthquake ended, I thought to myself if this was the situation in Lahore what would have happened where the epicenter was. Later on the images that were broadcasted from television screens depicted total devastation.

Re: Have you ever experienced a natural 'disaster'
2005 earthquake.
Re: Have you ever experienced a natural 'disaster'
Yes I have experience earthquake of 2005.
Re: Have you ever experienced a natural 'disaster'
yes, earth tremors/jolts a couple of times...also seen a very low intensity/level flooding. nothing serious though.
i used to experience the trauma of falling mud walls/houses in my village during dark heavy monsoon nights. i remember rushing to those 'disaster' areas in the middle of the night trying to help in making passage for the gushing waters in the lane. feared water snakes or even cobra floating around in the water in the dark...it wasn't a real danger because cobras had survival issues of their own...they hardly had any though of biting anyone anyways...:D
Re: Have you ever experienced a natural 'disaster'
