not taken by someone else no, your talking like the other peorson was an object to be taken/owned.

been in a situation where the person moved on to someone else, and yes it was painful.

think about it - how did you learn fire is hot and will burn your hand without touching the fire…

First: One can learn from others telling one that the fire is hot. Or just getting close to it can make one guess too.

Second: One does not have to deliberately touch the fire to check if it is hot.

Accidents are also our teachers.
