No. The only thing that’s happened to me is I find a girl interesting only to find out later she’s already taken.
I expect this thread is going to lead to a lot of sob stories

That's what I was wondering too, how do you start loving someone before finding out she's not available? I think what the OP means is where you loved someone and somehow it didn't work out with her and she ended up with someone else.

First: One can learn from others telling one that the fire is hot. Or just getting close to it can make one guess too. :)
Second: One does not have to deliberately touch the fire to check if it is hot.
Accidents are also our teachers.

yes pain is an inbuilt mechanism for us to learn from. only stupid people repeatedly experiance pain on purpose, or maybe for kicks but thats another story.
