have to die one day anyway....

ASAK!

Some of my relatives have this attitude towards their health which totally confuses me…

One relative had a heart attack (something milder than heart attack actually, even milder than angina) and he refuses to go to the doctor for further checkups, even when his family insists on taking him, he says ‘marna toh ik din waise bhee hae, kyun apni zindagi ko dawaiyaan kha ke aur beemarion ki fikraan karte guzaroon’ (one has to die anyway so whats the point of spending ur life eating medicines and worrying about diseases)…

Another relative has diabetes but insists on having meetha (dessert) everyday, just gets more insulin injected…during the current mango season, she ate mangoes everyday and every morning her breakfast consisted of mango milkshake…imagine, she is diabetic!!! she says marna toh ik din waise bhee hae, she loves aam and might as well enjoy them while she is alive, staying happy is most important, PARHEZ can wait…

i kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind of agree with all this but am not sure what to do in such situations, should i insist to my relatives that they do PARHEZ or no??

ofcourse marna toh hae, par our body is an amaanat (trust) from Allah that we should take care of…isnt it?? And shouldn’t one take care for the sake of loved ones???

i’m totally confused

what is the Islamic ruling on this? jazak Allah

p.s. Mods, FYI I am also posting a similar thread in the Family section as this one is to know the Islamic ruling on this issue but the thread in the family section is just for ppl’s general opinions..thx!

Allah Most High says in His Glorious Book:

"And your Lord taught the bee to build its cells in the hills, on trees and in habitations... there issues from within their bodies a drink of varying colours wherein is healing for mankind. Verily this is a sign for those who give thought." (16:68-69)

In this verse Allah tells us that honey has medicinal properties that provides "healing for mankind". The fact that Allah pointed this out suffices to show that at the very least mankind is allowed to seek cures through medication and, more than likely, is positively encouraged to do so. This is emphasised even more if one reads this verse in conjunction with the following verse:

"And spend of your substance in the cause of Allah, and make not your own hands contribute to your destruction, but do good; for Allah loveth those who do good." (2:195)

So if by refraining from taking medication you are contributing to your own destruction then that is something highly questionable.

And Allah knows best.

Glory be to Allah who controls life and death, but I'm sure its our islamic duty to keep ourself in the best possible shape physically and mentally. Its all part of being a good muslim.

Allah helps them who help themselves.

jazak Allah for the replies :flower2:
