have not offered prayers for ages... with good intentions of speaking to Allah,

how do u pray to Allah after totally ignoring the duty of offering prayers regularly. how do u maitain prayer regularity?

Re: have not offered prayers for ages... with good intentions of speaking to Allah,

have someone make sure u pray everyday for like a week, then after that it'll become like a habit and u wont be able to go about ur day without them.

Re: have not offered prayers for ages... with good intentions of speaking to Allah,

That is a very good question and afridi bhai gave a good answer but let me tell you how to do it
first of all your aim should of this one day that you have to pray 5 times .. take it like a challenge or anything .you may not be able to get up for fajr or go to sleep without isha but the day you get it right you should move forward.. now you should increase your goal to 2 days 3 days and so on .. and i am sure after almost a month you will develop it like a habbit and your day ll not pass without it ... and try not to tell a lie .. and keep a friendship with a person who can frankly ask you did you pray today .that way you ll be getting reminders everyday. it is going to be hard in the first few days but you ll get through

Re: have not offered prayers for ages... with good intentions of speaking to Allah,

^^^ that is how i developed it

Re: have not offered prayers for ages... with good intentions of speaking to Allah,

^ keep a good religious company, you will start praying again inshallah with steadfastness.

Re: have not offered prayers for ages... with good intentions of speaking to Allah,

Spot on, if u are with people who pray regularly it will be very easy, and if u are with people who do not pray then it'll be very difficult.

Re: have not offered prayers for ages... with good intentions of speaking to Allah,

^^^ i missed that

Re: have not offered prayers for ages... with good intentions of speaking to Allah,

also, if u have just started praying, do we have to make up for our past fardh prayers ( the ones i've missed over yrs)?

Re: have not offered prayers for ages… with good intentions of speaking to Allah,

Yes, to my understanding and knowledge, yes we are supposed to make up for those prayers we have missed. Following is the link to the thread which was posted here hardly a few days ago about the qaza namaz issue:

All those whom Allah has guided to this realization, are very lucky indeed. Once you have realized yourself, inshaAllah it won’t take long for you to start practicing 5 times a day regularly. I started slow and alhumdulillah, I pray regularly now and whenever I miss one, it hurts me and I stay restless until I have made up for that one. Thank God for that

Re: have not offered prayers for ages... with good intentions of speaking to Allah,

That is the ultimate strength. **It is a hard thing to do for all, except for those who are humble in spirit **(a verse from the Quran-e-Karim). Once you've estabilished regular prayers, it will become much easier for you.

I recommend you start fasting. Believe me, fasting is the veil that keeps one away from sin. Keep yourself motivated towards good deeds, as said by others in the above posts. Choose your friends carefully. Friends follow each other's paths (whether right or wrong).

You will be tested by Allah, whether you've set prayers as your top-priority. Do not fall; use your strength. The reward from Allah is greater than that you give up for Allah.
