some of our top notch pakistani designers are the absolute cream of the crop when it comes to desi fashion. their embroideries are gorgeous and innovative.
a lot of them have even gone to fashion school and done their entire thesis on fashion. the more experienced bridal trosseau designers do produce some seriously fine pieces. others are just meh.
lets leave the general public aside, and think of the designers themselves. they are pros right? some being pros who have gone to school for this in fact. but despite all the so called fashion awareness amongst the designers, i dont understand why they use the term haute couture to define their clothing. i mean, cmon, anyone who knows anything about fashion knows that haute couture is a legally protected status given to only a handful of global designers like dior, chanel, gaultier, etc. (by the syndical chamber for haute couture in paris).
haute couture fashion is not normally intended to be available for sale to the masses. in fact, if stats are correct, only 2000 women in the world buy haute couture pieces.
it just cracks me up when i see these ads placed by all these joe schmoe bridal trosseau designers, especially the home based ones, talking about their original designs(read: KNOCKOFFS) and claiming to be haute couturiers.
think of this as just a rant, or a musing if you will.
I couldn't agree more. I am tired of designers using flowery phrases and jargon (often incorrectly) in an attempt to raise the quality of their product. I am actually turned off by designers who use this excessive verbiage. I would much rather prefer "home based designer, with unique, original pieces." Then I would know, for once, that I am dealing with an honest person!
When I think haute couture: CHANEL, Christian Lacroix, givernchy, Dior pieces come into my mind!! It's a society of its own and very few of us are lucky enough to see the creations of these designers. They sure have been abusing the term haute couture in Pakistan, but I guess they want everything to sound "foreign" and "exotic."
Another thing that seriously annoys me is when these same top-notch designers write about their *sequence *kaam!!! its SEQUINSSSSS for heaven's sake!!!!!!! oh I just had to get that out of my system lol
the real meaning of haute couture is missused in my opinion... french haute couture mostly isnt affordable...i just saw a documentation that just very very rich women buy haute couture dresses and they arent made for everybody...and haute couture in the opinion of HSY...isnt real haute couture...its just to be "modern"
i dont think they mean modern i just think they mean that its their 'very high end fashion' line where they will work with the client one-on-one to give them a custom made piece which ofcourse they then make it available to anyone else that wants to purchase it.
where they will work with the client one-on-one to give them a custom made piece which ofcourse they then make it available to anyone else that wants to purchase it.
OH LOL! Uniquely one of a kind, for you and hundreds of others.
ya the term 'haute couture' is used a bit loosely by most designers.
here's another thing i have been thinking of, when you pay thousands extra to order from any designer, you really need to go in PERSON please, to take advantage of the services you are truly paying for! i have read a lot of unfortunate incidents here regarding online ordering and i think it is greedy of these designers to get payment for a 'personalized' service but never really fulfill it because they are dealing with an online client they have never seen. measurements on paper and clothes based on pictures are no way close to a 'designer outfit', any darzi can make u a fabulous jora based on a picture and measurements on paper.
when you go to a designer you are basically paying for a one on one, personalized service where clothes are literally 'made to order' keeping you in mind. in my personal experience with a few designers, when i chose a specific design off the rack, it was not made as is, the next step is discussing colour schemes, length and cut of the jora (keeping height/weight in mind) and it came out looking better than what i had chosen initially because it was catered specificially for me and since i paid an arm and a leg for this designers professional opinion i better take full advantage of it! unfortunately you cannot avail that service online, these designers should stop taking online orders because it puts them in the category of any other online clothing vendor and not a 'designer', per se.
