Re: Has Sufi Poetry become outdated and irrelavant?
Uffoo…You guys don’t think of Sufiyana kalaam as maths. It’s not a concrete science in which 2+2=4 or 10 cut into 2 pieces makes 5 each. Every person interprets this stuff differently.
The sufi tradition of our Punjab is one that inspired such a beautiful culture and secular environment.
“Na main pooja paath jo keeti, na main ganga nahaya. Na main panj namazan parheya, te na tazba karkhaya. Bulleh Shah nu murshid mileya jihne aine jaa bakshaya”
One of my uncles was telling me about how all this sufi thought and such influenced such great things in Punjabi culture, like a Gurudwara has 4 doors (North, South, East, West) to show that anyone, of any faith can enter into god’s house. That Dulla Bhatti fought against the mughals who were converting hindu people, he would protect these women, even get them married, etc .
This was all blasphemy to orthodox clergy and they didn’t leave any chance to condemn such acts of sufis to impurify their purified version of religion.
