that all of our lives we go to college and then get a decent job with good pay, and then die happily.
Does anyone actually want to be remembered for something extraordinary. You want to achieve something that makes your family and your country so proud.
Going to college and getting a job with good pay and dying happily sounds so dull to me, am I the only here?
no, it ain’t dull question but lots of people tend to dig it deeep in the sand cause it hurts…
you ought to find Your goal in life and what YOU wanna achieve in life!
there’s no chocolate for life you know…learn who you are and what suits you, therefore the right life path for you will be obvious:)
Let me first focus on the title (Re: Has it ever occured to anyone…). I have found that if something has popped up in my mind, it is darn near impossible that someone else hasn’t already thought about it and put it on a blog. So the answer is a definite yes!!!
Thats is so sad but true. As Parissenoor said, the idea should be to look deep inside yourself and find out what you really want to achieve in life. Then raise up the courage and commitment to achieve your goal.
However, in the end you tend to think, does anything really matter? More on that latter!!
Are you asking if we should do something that will make us famous? People do extraordinary things every single day, that nobody else outside their realm finds out about. To me, that is whats important. I dont consider that to be dull. It’s about perspective.
what more can you want? be grateful that you won’t shrivel to death because of starvation, at least or get disembowelled in a massacre. things can be a lot worse.
but yes, you do still have a point. our lives are just pointless, routine and humdrum… it’s really up to you how interesting your life is. u
First of all thank Allah for all the mercy and favours that HE has blessed you with.. (as pakjangjoo said)
Secondly, yes i do agree with you that we desis (i can only talk from our desi point of view) are very dull in life.. we always try "secure" investments .. not that there is anything in particular wrong with it but we are very restrictive and conserved by these rules...
a simple example from my life would be the time i told my parents that i am goig to start a business and i have applied to business loans ... I was 21 at that time.. (and you should've seen their faces.. lol .. ) their reaction at once was .. tum abhi bahut chotay ho.. job karo.. kiya business karo gaye... you have to finish your education, get a good paying job, get a house, car, begum (as if i am going to buy her as well)
Fact is I had never applied for a loan.. i did however started up my own business at age 21 with $3000 savings from my damn summer jobs.. i just wanted to see how much my parents will be supporting my big leap in life.. and it turns out that they are more concerned about other things .. rather than asking me what my business plan was they got defensive.. and rest is common
Umair.. do as you wish in life.. but stay within a limit.. there is a lot to be done in this world. you don't have to go that far away from your culture/religion to do something extraordinary.. whatever I do .. i evaluate it with three criterias:
Will it make me a good muslim? / Will it make my hereafter better?
Will it provide me and my family benfit?
Is it worth it? (get a second opinion from my father/mother/brother and friends)
that's all in the end its still my call.. :)
enjoy life Allah has given it to us to enjoy it.. given us life and then all the rehmat and naymats to enjoy.. be happy and thank Allah..
I posted a thread a little while ago about acheiving serenity. This, I think, would be a great acheivement and one I try to strive for. Also, raising good, well-behaved boys who are able to find their own serenity and happiness is an even better acheivement. Better than fame and glory etc.
A related thought....you know, if you can put 3 meals (with meat) on the table every day then you are in the TOP 3 PERCENT of "richest people on the planet"?!!!
HOW SAD is that? and how very rich we here on GS are!
One thing common among us desis is that we tend to measure success on the amount of money we have.
I agree that we have to be thankfull for everything we have but I am talking about people going out of their way to achieve something.
Examples, Mahatma Gandhi, Einstein, Mother Theresa, Imran Khan etc.
Something which makes your country and yourself standout.
