It’s basically an application that you install on your USB thumb drive or iPod etc and allows you to take your PC applications and data with you. In other words it’s like your PC on USB drive that you can use on any other PC.
Are there any other alternative application similar to this? I’m looking for something that allows me to keep all the common application + the my personal data on one place regardless of which computer I use (at home or at work etc.). I’ve my notes, addresses, bookmarks, personalized browsers, office documents etc and I’ve to manually backup or sync every time from one PC to another. This looks like a good solution allowing me to take everything with me regardless of the location as long as there is a laptop/pc available at that location.
There’s this new things out now called the U3, which comes installed on USB drives. Search for the Sandisk Cruzer with U3.
It lets you install all different kinds of applications, e.g. Firefox, Skype, Antivirus and Trillian etc. so you can run those doesn’t matter what PC you’re on. Here’s their website:
That is the exact reason we DS guys like to disable USB ports or install software that monitors its use. Shame on you Roman, why do you make it difficult for the rest of the good folks.
Tofi, yeh I looked at that too. There is another one called Ceedo. there also always protableapps. but after doing much search etc I've come to the conclusion that it's really the windows apps (ms office, outlook, or other windows based apps etc) that I need. u3 and portableapps are not windows based apps.
the downside to the windows based usb apps like mojopac is that you have to have host pc administrative rights to run it. this pretty much kills it for me right now. I'll wait till they have next version where you can use it with limited access windows account as well.
kaleemay, with all the convergence happening in terms of hardware and software we're still not where we can be. people should have one nifty device for everything with GOOD QUALITY, longer battery life, sleek design, and lots of memory.

What are you talking about, all those apps are Windows platform apps. You can't use the U3 apps on other platforms. U3 itself is Win32 based.
Tofi, sorry wrong wording. What I meant was that these are no MS apps. Meaning if I'm using outlook on my pc I've to use different program on portableapps for address book etc. Basically I want outlook on both pc and usb. So in other words I want both applications that I use AND the data portable between both pc and usb.

That would be extremely useful indeed. Just today I ran into a problem where I wanted to run an embedded wmv file in ppt and couldn't because the podium computer didn't have the right codecs, and I couldn't install anything due to the restricted admin privileges.
With a solution that works in a virtual shell on top of the host OS, this can be resolved without affecting the host machine... I wonder why this hasn't been done yet. It's just functionality at a higher layer of abstraction.

He will still need a laptop/PC in order to use the "mojopac" so while you are building the laptop for him make sure to disable the USB ports in BIOS, etc. and then hand it over to him for his use.
As far the application... I don't see the benefit. Yeah, it sounds pretty good and ease of portability but you still need a PC to access the information and if the PC is in your corporate network, chances are that it will be secured, if everybody is following the network policies.
