has anyone used pakremit ?

hi all, was wondering if anyone has used pakremit ? They ask for SSN which I am super uncomfortable in providing them with, given the fact that at the end of the day it is a paki bank/website and I don’t want my confidential information to be leaked or jeopardized. Wanted to find out if anyone here has been using it for sometime and what do they think…

Re: has anyone used pakremit ?

I wonder what will they do with your SSN??

Re: has anyone used pakremit ?

donno...they have it on their website as a mandatory requirement by the U.S laws..but to give such critical piece of info to a paki bank that too for just shopping purposes....I don't have the nerve to do it :p

Re: has anyone used pakremit ?

i've used it many times. highly reliable & secure.

Re: has anyone used pakremit ?

^ and so you did provide them with your SSN right....sigh....it scares the hell out of me to think "what if my SSn is misused?"

Re: has anyone used pakremit ?

I can't speak for US laws, but in Canada (which has slightly similar banking laws), you don't even need your SSN/SIN to open a bank account (unless it's a registered account) let alone send money via Pakremit. Do not provide your SSN to the agent. I'd think twice about providing the information.

I understand that you may need to provide ID verification information, but usually a credit card and other photo ID suffices.

Re: has anyone used pakremit ?

i am in USA and have repeatedly used PAkRemit. no problems at all. and you have to provide ur SSN since money is going overseas. they have to keep track of it as per US laws.

Re: has anyone used pakremit ?

I'm surprised to read this. Well I learned something today.

Re: has anyone used pakremit ?

kya karen kya na karen ye kaisi mushkil haaye :p apaayya I feel encouraged by your post but at the same time I get thoughts like "what iffff the SSN is misused in future....once we enter it, they have got it"....I will withhold any decision for now :p

Re: has anyone used pakremit ?

use other option of payment, pay by payal, google checkout, western union, giving ID info is scary to me too. even a utility bill is ok in many cases and lots of places, and with such high number of identity theft in the US, think twice.

Re: has anyone used pakremit ?

believe it or not, its monitored by citibank!! the correspondence i got thru email came from a citibank email address!!
@talkfashion, i would definetly reccommend and use it. i have been a customer for over 2 years and no problems at all!!
good luck!!

Re: has anyone used pakremit ?

i honestly don't remember...if the online registration asks for it, then i must have. however, i do recall them calling me right after i opened an account and made my first transfer to confirm if it was actually made by me or not.

Re: has anyone used pakremit ?

I am exact same boat - just tried to open an account and very unsure about if i want to give my SS.

Do we have any more people who have used the service? How do they feel about givinh SS to a Pakistani bank site that also is asking for DOB/Bank Acc/Routing# your address etc.

I mean thought of this is making me very nervous. So any feedback would be great.

Re: has anyone used pakremit ?

I stopped using Pakremit a couple of yrs ago. I tried to send money to someone named "Muhammad" once in Pakistan and they denied my transaction since that name is on the "list". They were asking for a lot of additional info about the person which I did not readily have at that time. I got annoyed and switched to Western Union after that.

However, I ran in to the same problem with WU recently but it was an online transaction again. There is no issue if you do it in person at a WU location.

Pak remit is not meant for commercial money transfers anyway. I felt like I was lying each time I used it to send money for apparel purchase. Also, I don't feel like filling the whole page of info they've sent me a quite a few times ever since I stopped using their service. I now use Western Union and Noorani International (a Houston based firm) for all my money transfers. Not a bad deal for $5 and much faster than Pakremit.
