Yeah i went with friends back in 2004, we stayed on the coast at El port Kantoui, our hotel was just 5 mins walk from the beach which is where we spent most of our time.
As for eating out, i'm afraid their cuisine is awful, bland, tasteless food. Many restaurants pretty much do the same dishes the next place does, theirs not much variety and the service at best is sub-standard.
For shopping, forget about it, all their tack was rubbish, i purchased nothing whilst there i was that dissapointed.
Ya best ignoring Tunisia and take a flight to the big apple.

A friend of mine went for a week and him and his missus were totally bored, said there was nothing to do except for chilling o the beach and the night life is non existant...
ur better off heading to sharm not too far away was excellent.. lots to do and food is GREAT!!

oh cool. but how old were your friends? If they were quite young then I can understand the boredom but if they are quite old then a relaxed, quiet, holiday is maybe just what a person needs.
The reason I ask is I want to send my parents there and it seems like a place for older travellers.
