So, has he miscalculated that public would’ve just been indifferent this time as well, or did he actually intend the effect that’s taking place right now. Whether it’s online petitions, or the complaints to MET Police, or raising the threat to a national/international political level and make it an issue that does not go unnoticed?

Plans are being changed time to time . Script writers of Rawalpindi some time miscalculate . They wanted to reduce NS , Oust MQM ,reduce PPP and a hung parliament in result , But when they saw the hype in favor of PTI , they miscalculated and allowed MQM to use their traditional tactics to keep Ik low . This all happened this way . May be some foreign hands advised them to help MQM .

MQM will not last long.... They can't survive fair election. I wish PTI or AMPL was powerful enough to take MQM out of the Sindh equation.

I think MQM plays good cop, bad cop. One guy would issue threats and other would say opposite things. "Messages" are delivered efficiently like this.

agree to some but not all of your thoughts here. Yes they saw IK threatening their free reign with US money.

MQM vote bank has deteriorated rapidly. PTI broke very heavily into MQMs vote bank, as was evident in these elections. I doubt it that people would be inspired to take up arms for Altaf Hussain in the same way as they were on May 12, 2007. Alhamdulillah, times are changing, and people have shed their cloak of fear.

More Altaf Hussain will show his desperation.. more quickly he will be wiped out. It's evident that he is not deriving his strength from popular support anymore but his network of armed criminals and gangsters. Just wipe out his network of armed gangsters.. and see if he can even get a councillor elected.
In a desperate attempt he has tried to play ethnic card in Karachi.. I doubt if it will work...

MQM wasn't even designed to survive democracy, let alone free and fair elections. The party's a b-astard child of a military dictator and it's been turned into a living, breathing monster by another dictator's unlimited funding and support. The fact that MQM isn't willing to accept defeat in a democratic system, or respect people's right to vote and the power of free media just shows how dangerously backward and outdated the party actually is. Even more so when you consider that a mere completion one democratic cycle has kick started the terminal decline of parties like PLMQ, PPP, ANP and reduced the overall influence of JUI/JI, but fact that all these parties have accepted public's decision only make MQM truly look like the ultimate undemocratic force, desperate to hang on to power by hook or crook. In the age of hype active social and electronic media, MQM's dirty tactics cannot remain under the radar for so long.

I agree with this. They are still stuck in 80s. Their criminal leadership think that bhai giri, economic terrorism, gang violence, ethnic propaganda is the way to rule the city.
