The price on SSD’s and hybrids are down to where I think we can start using them in mainstream production. I came across the Seagate XT series which has platters and NAND flash to boost performance to where its coming closer the SSD performance and yet the price is very reasonable (XT500 GB @ $99).
Another problem is with the type of computer you are using. On a desktop you can put in a smaller SSD for the performance piece and then multi-TB drives for data. But with laptops you are limited to carrying around the box with only one drive so you have to take that decision very seriously.
Is anyone else playing around with any high-performance drives?
