We people in US care so much about haram ingredients but what about people in Pakistan? They eat Kraft cheese and they take different medicines that have lot of haraam ingredients. And lot of butchers give jhataky kaa meat because their animals get killed and they sold it as it is. Do you think people shold care about halaal and haraam in Pakistan also?
Re: Haramm ingredients
yep, it doesn't make them any more/less muslim as the rest of us. same rules apply
Re: Haramm ingredients
People do care about halal/haram in Pakistan too. The shopkeepers are mostly Muslims and it is generally assumed (rightful assumption) that they would be selling halal products, so no one questions. Plus if a known muslim tells you that certain product is halal, unless you have high doubts about his claim, for you the product is halal and if he lied then burden of committing the sin is on him.
I was so much in habit of not caring about halal aspect that the next day I landed in USA, I went to macdonalds and ate a hamburger. Later I was told that it was I am not in Pakistan anymore and I should apply some care when buy products.
It all depends on what products you are buying. If some "imported" products from a shop then you should not rely on what the shop keeper tells you. Most probably they are not aware of haram ingredients themselves. It's wise to check ingredients and educate those shopkeepers about the haram ingredients, if you find some.
Re: Haramm ingredients
Kraft cheese in ME is not haraam!
Re: Haramm ingredients
Like TLK said, most people in Pakistan, and for that matter, any other Muslim country often take food for granted. Their only concept of haraam is pork... which isn't easily accessible in the first place in those countries, so everything else is fair game anyways. Also, the concept of zabihah halal is taken to be a given, so people often don't deliberate on it.
My dad used to travel around the world with Arab colleagues and he recalls eating everything except pork with them - including beef, chicken etc. - and didn't bother with the zabihah halal issue until later when he was made to realize that halal and zabihah halal are separate issues.
One of our friend started a business in pharmaceutical industry and he told us that imported medicines which Pakistani people are taking as granted had lot of beef and pork ingredients. Well I don't know where to draw a line for haraam as sometimes you have to take medicines.
And I saw a documentary on channel 8 about Saudi Arabia they mentioned in that documentary that vanilla is not halaal as it has alcohol in it and they told the saudi government but Since King or Shah wanted to eat it so they start selling in KSA. So yes we cannot take anything as granted we have to make sure. My mom used to eat vitamins and all of them have gelatin so now when we made her realize she stopped eating them.
Re: Haramm ingredients
kraft cheese is not haram. but its a good practice to see the ingredients.
ps. my bro worked as a consultant for kraft and he is way more informant than of us sibs in halal ingredients.
Re: Haramm ingredients
well I've heard that Centrum multivitamins are really popular in Pakistan and most of us in US know that they have gelatin hence making them haram for us...there are many more such examples...So I conclude that mostly people back home or many arab countries for that matter do not pay as much attention to this matter as we do in US...Just my two cents!!
Re: Haramm ingredients
There are multivitamins that are halaal. You should look for those and take your vitamins. For God’s sake, don’t compromise your health, because of seeking to be more religious. ![]()
Re: Haramm ingredients
Vitamin world has some good halal multivitamins...so does GNC...It's just a matter of looking for it:)
