ISLAMABAD, Oct 7 (APP): Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Sunday announced a special assistance of Rs 20 million for each member of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial assembly for development projects in their respective constituencies.He also directed the Ministry of Finance for prompt release of these funds…
124 members x 20 million each = 2.48 billion rupees go down the drain at a wave of Raja’s hand.
Find me example of a civilized country where lawmakers are handed out money to initiate projects.
Yes, governments spend money on ‘pet’ projects, but it goes through;
development budget,
approval by planning commissions,
vote,
and contracts awarded through centralized bidding process.
Lawmakers only feature in the planning and voting process. Where in the world is money handed out so arbitrarily (20 million for each member without any budget or plans for the area) to LAWMAKERS?
The post is not naive. It is just naive to believe that this money is intended to be spent on development projects when elections are around the corner.
They looted for 4.5 years, now they have to show “some development”, best thing is to do it right before elections so people can be blinded by the fog.
I won’t be surprised even if a Rs10,000 ‘booty’ is handed out to each voter throughout the country as money isn’t a problem — they are printing 'em 24-hour a day.
I get so much irritated everytime I come to know of such news. These politicians are making fool of the already fooled nation of Pakistan. How can one educate them that MNA’s and MPA’s only job is of legislations? The money for development projects is for local govt. bodies such as councelors/nazim
