The Fatwa was given by a renowned scholar of India Maulana Yousuf Islahi of Deoband. The najis is consumable liquor. The class Alcohol is not liquor.

But that is just one point of view, and i wont argue it since i am nobody compared to a scholar of the stature of Maulana Yousuf Islahi.
Other scholars like Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen state that this also refers to normal alchohol, being applied to skin.
Notice that i never said that perfumes and other stuff, with alchohol in it, are haraam. All iam saying is that the majority of the scholars are of the view that it is "Better to avoid".
