Haq Mojood Sada Mojood

On many sufi shrines of Sindh, especially Sachal Sarmast people used to greet by saying Haq Mojood and replying with Sada Mojood.Do you know anyother styles of greetings besides Assalam Alaikum in your culture?

Re: Haq Mojood Sada Mojood

Not all greetings are spoken words.

Salutes come in many forms. In ancient times my people would use different means of sign language to convey meaning. A greeting for a friend was to hold a flat hand to your chest and raise it with the hand palm facing outwards towards your friend.

When greeting a stranger or someone you dont get along with you clench your fist above your chest and raise a clenched fist like a salute.

When you wanted to end a conversation you made a claw of the thumb and first two fingers of your hand and swept them across your body shoulder to shoulder.

All signals were made with the right hand.

Re: Haq Mojood Sada Mojood

wa'laikum "TASLEEMAAT", Muqwee [Bhai nahiiN kahaa ] ;) :p

Re: Haq Mojood Sada Mojood

Why they Tasleemat, what is the meaning?

Forgive my ignorance but being a naturally outdoors type of fella in real life I'm very short on words most of the time and apart from Salaams I think few people have ever heard me say anything else... at least anything more than a few words.

Re: Haq Mojood Sada Mojood

tasleemaat is the plural for the word **tasleem means = salaam karnaa, submission.

**it has sevaral variations:-tasleem bajaa laataa huN
-tasleem 'arz hai
-tasleem
-tasleemaat
-tasleem kartaa huN

Re: Haq Mojood Sada Mojood

Aadab chacha KKF :)

Ok, in rural Sindh, Shia people greet as Ya Ali Mada and other person reply as Mola Ali Madad. From star plus, I knew that Hindus also greet in same manner: Jay Shri Krishna :)

Re: Haq Mojood Sada Mojood

Hahaha Ya Ali Madad was a battle cry for us… imagine it would be an interesting form of greeting indeed. :hbk:

Hmmm :hmmm: “Jay” means live long right?

I am only guessing at that becuase of this 90’s South Indian rebel movement I used to think really good called “Jay Praja” long live the people.

Re: Haq Mojood Sada Mojood

in rural India…lower caste Hindus [farmers who do khetii baaRii on Muslim Zameendaar’s land] call Muslims “MiyaaN” and say “salaam miyaaN” … and Muslims reply “walekum” [NO salaam].

kuchh maGhroor yaa older Muslim folks apne se 'umr meN yaa status meN chhoTe aadmiyoN ko salaam karnaa gawaarah nahiiN karte aur jab koii salaam kar le [majbooran yaa aadatan] to vo sar ko asbaat men hilaa kar jawaab dete haiN…[no words used]…yeh bhii Ghuroor kii koi sinf hogii :cb:

aise logoN ko maiN kabhii ghaas nahiiN Daaltaa…mere shehr men ek retired Judge saaHab haiN unkaa yehii shai’va hai…maiN unkoo bhii kabhii ghaas nahiiN Daaltaa HaalaaN k vo mere vaalid ke saathiyoN meN se the!

ek aur burii baat Muslims jo Ghalat karte haiN vo hai k salaam haath uThaa kar karte haiN…ya’nii…HinduoN se ham ne yeh seekhaa k jaise vo namashkaar haath joR kar karte haiN…maiN ne kuchh Pakistani MUslim sho’araa ko haath joR kar salaam karte dekhaa hai mushaa’iroN meN aur do ek Pakistani Politicians ko bhii haath joR kar salaam karte dekhaa hai

ajeeb o Ghareeb tamaashe karte haiN Muslims bhii! :frowning:

Re: Haq Mojood Sada Mojood

jai means ‘VICTORY’

Re: Haq Mojood Sada Mojood

But what about when they say so and so ki "Jay" at parades. I thought it meant "live long"

Oh well thanks anyway :)

Re: Haq Mojood Sada Mojood

it also means victory! i think it's shorter version of the word VIJAY meaning Victory.

Re: Haq Mojood Sada Mojood

Jay Hind means Hindustan Zinda bad

Re: Haq Mojood Sada Mojood

i think it means "Victory to India" and "Victory be India's" :) kia Khayaal hai?

Re: Haq Mojood Sada Mojood

May be.. but Jay could be short form of Jeevay

Re: Haq Mojood Sada Mojood

may be but i doubt...we in India never say JEEVAY Bharat! :D

Re: Haq Mojood Sada Mojood
